What else is needed in this Song

I could post this in the artist corner but that place is dead, can anyone make a good drum beat to go with this instrumental i have? It is a guitar and piano melody with strings close to the end. I just can not do drums haha. Or just opinions on how this sounds would be nice

Is that a steel stringed guitar, I think the twang is a bit overpowering. A smoother sound would probably fit better.

I think the song sounds good, I can't really find the opportunity to add drums in though. I don't there needed unless you take the song further adding some more parts.

Sounds like background music for a visual novel. I agree with Mr Raptor's feedback. You should expand it a little more before considering drums and have less ponticello in the guitar, strike the strings closer to the neck for that warmer fatter sound to go with the sweetness of the piano.

It is actually a guitar Vst and the piano is also a vst. I know nothing really about music theory i just know what sounds good, so i want to expand it but dont know where to go haha

I figured. I think you would be better off with a real piano sample. What program are you working in?

If I can, I'll record a sample for you. I've got a kawai es7 piano, which has a nicer crisper sound in my opinion.

Bosco, if you're using a guitar vst, you should be able to make the sound warmer and fatter from adjusting some parameters.
If you want a quick and dirty fix for softening the guitar, just use a low pass filter and adjust till you have a sound that balances definition and softness (you will probably want a subtle effect there otherwise the guitar will sound too muddled and distant).

However, if it is a proper professional guitar vst, it should allow you to "pick" the guitar at different positions in it's body. If so, gradualy lessen the distance between your virtual picking area and the fretboard until you have the sound you want. I have personally never used a guitar vst myself but that would be a feature that I would imagine should be included.

The sky is the limit for what sound you want, don't be afraid to get stuck in with adjusting all those dials and knobs. Remember, you can always reload your original sound if you are simply afraid of screwing it up. You don't need to know any theory, just tinker like a mad audio scientist till you have that perfect sound.

If this sounds like a lot of work for now, you can always first work on the melodies first and later come back and refine the sound. pm me and Mr. Raptor the rough finished track if you don't feel comfortable publicly sharing the unrefined product but still want some feedback.

P.S. If any of the terms I used above are unclear, you should check out some tutorials on youtube. The concept of a low pass filter will be beginner material so you should be able to learn it in under 10 minutes from the right video.

      Here's a good video:
