Help us test the Duplicate Post glitch!

Hello! You may have noticed a recent uptick in thread replies posting multiple times for no reason (officially known as the "Duplicate Post Glitch"). This glitch has been happening for a bit now, and it's usually pretty annoying for all parties involved (especially staff, who have to find and delete all the duplicates). We're looking into fixing it now, but to help us out tremendously in diagnosing the problem, we need some more data on it, as it seems to only affect certain subforums, certain users, and certain times of day. Plus, I'm currently in the process of making an automated script that can detect and automatically delete duplicate posts, but I need a controlled area to test it out.

This is where you all come in. We want you to use this thread to help us diagnose the glitch - all you have to do is post here using the "Post Quick Reply" button (as the quick reply seems to be the main way it happens). If you do get a duplicate post, don't worry about editing/deleting/reporting it - we'll take care of that part for you. You can post about pretty much anything you want (but obviously don't put anything that goes against our general posting rules), just be sure to use the "Post Quick Reply" button when you post. Once we think we've got enough data, we'll delete this thread.

I have been doing it in Chrome, which has had a duplicate a few times. But I thought I'd mix it up just because.

On a side note, the auto duplicate-deleter is now live. So if you have a duplicate post, it should automatically be deleted within about 15 seconds. Hopefully it happens here, so I can show what it looks like. EDIT: No duplicate for me.

Hehe yeah,I thought it would be deleted by the script.I almost forgot about it till you mentioned it.

Okay, now the script is running. I had a bug with it last night, and my cookie would expire after like 10 minutes so it wouldn't delete anymore. But it's now fixed and working, as you'll see around the forum now.

Great job spellbee~ I double posted on the comp thread but it deleted it a few secs later. Glad to know its working now.

That's just a simple case of it not detecting the duplicate because the URL is different across pages. I'll try to fix it when I can, but it's a rare enough occurrence that I'm not too worried about it.

Made some improvements to the script - it should now work across pages of the same thread, and it actually checks the content of the post as well (so it should avoid false positives from posting twice in the same minute).

An interesting tidbit that may help narrow down the issue for whoever's fixing it - when trying to compare the post content between the two, it wasn't working at first for a weird reason. One of the posts would contain the DOS line endings (\r\n) and the other would contain the Unix line endings (\n). I don't know what exactly would cause this, but it is quite interesting.

EDIT: This was the first post in this thread to duplicate. So it IS possible.
