      NyQuil experiment

I have a problem with waking up almost immediately when I became lucid. I usually don't even have enough time to try spinning or any of that.

The other night I did my normal routine. WBTB after 4 hours, take some Galantamine and Choline and put on my REMdreamer mask with an hour delay. This time however I added a dose of NyQuil on top of that.

The plan was, once I become lucid the NyQuil would keep me asleep long enough to conduct some RC's.

It worked like a charm the first REM cycle. I was only lucid for few minutes but that was a breakthrough for me. I WBTB again without supplements or NyQuil took some notes. The second REM was very vivid and I had great recall but I did not become lucid.

I may try again tonight. I'm hoping that if it works a few more times I'll be able to hold lucidity on my
own without the NyQuil just like training wheels

Do share the results with us once they're finalized.

Also, just to ask, how long are you going to take NyQuil? You gotta be careful, because the body could very easily adapt to needing that in order to fall asleep, making a 'dry' sleep harder to do.

Thanks for the good advice. I will definitely be carefully. I only plan on using it as a crutch for short periods, if it seems to work that is.

I usually only use the Galantamine and choline occasionally, maybe once or twice a week at the most as to not build a resistance.

I tried again last night, I didn't work well because I woke up with a nasty toothache. I was going to abandon my WBTB because I probably couldn't focus and didn't want to dream of my teeth falling out but I went for it anyway.

I did not go as deep or become lucid but I did remember an interesting dream. If it wasn't for my REMDreamer mask waking me up, I probably would have slept through and forgot the whole dream.

I will continue my experiment once I have this dental issue fixed.

You might want to look into other sleep aids, namely any that aren't any of the first generation antihistamines, such as Diphenhydramine (ZZZQuil, Benadryl, certain preparations of Sominex and Unisom), Doxylamine (Certain preparations of Sominex and Unisom, NyQuil, generic nighttime NyQuil-esque medicines), and Chlorpheniramine (Chlor-trimeton, in Coricidin cough and cold along with DXM). Despite their antihistaminergic effects causing sedation, they are also potent anticholinergic drugs. This means rather than being an agonist at (in this case, muscarinic rather than nictonic) acetylcholine receptor sites, it is an antagonist. One could expect impaired short term memory, impaired formation of memories, poor or no ability to cocentrate, experiencing delirium and delusions, and highly related to annoying effects in dreaming, not realizing that something is weird or strange when it should be obvious (your entire family tree, including all the dead ones walking by and telling you hello, and you know they are dead and who they are, but you still don't realize you are dreaming or anything is different than usual). Most of these effects are, unless taken in massive doses, usually imperceptible when you are awake (unless of course they pretty much knock you out), but when it comes to dreaming, it just meshes with the already delirium-like state your mind happens to be in while dreaming. Basically it is doing the opposite of the very effect you desire to achieve by combining galantamine and choline. Valerian root or some other more natural sedative will probably be of better help. Although, that isn't to say you couldn't get positive results with this, that's what experimentation is for after all. I'm just giving you a forewarning to possibly keep you from either wasting time or being surprised by negative results. The chemistry just happens to be working against each other in this case.
