      Recurring nightmare cause or meaning?

      Hi everyone

I've been trying to find a reason for why I had a certain recurring nightmare for about 6 years of my life for quite a while, I was just wondering if anyone here could help me?

I started having these nightmares when I was 6. They were consecutive and happened every time I fell asleep which lead to my parents getting quite annoyed at me (and scolding me) every time I refused to go to sleep, which lead to me rejecting them due to them not protecting me.

I've already come to terms with this and we have a good enough relationship at the moment.

The nightmare stopped when I was about 13 but I have gotten it on the odd occasion since then.

      The nightmare was as follows...

I would wake up in my bunk bed (which I had at the time) and I would be on the bottom bed.

I would be sitting upright with my back against a wall looking at a digital clock that would be at 11:59.00 and would be counting towards 12:00.

At this point I would hear someone walking up the stairs in my house very slowly.

I would be in a state of powerlessness, where I had no strength, all I could do was barely crawl and not fight back.

I needed to get to my parents room before 12:00 otherwise I would see the person walking up the stairs murder me in a sort of third person view.

It differed from time to time but it would usually be decapitation, ending with me waking up in a cold sweat.

I would then fall asleep again and repeat the above.

Has anyone experienced this before or could they tell me if if had any meaning behind it?

      Because frankly.
It sculpted me to who I am today.

      Many thanks

      - Will

      Hi there!
Perhaps you may take a look on what Sleep Paralysis is, to have something to start with.
I wouldn't say it's something to be worried about, but something to understand and possibly take advantage of it. Long ago, I suggested to some relative, who had the same type of nightmares, that she could use it to get into a lucid dream, and at the same time, finish that type of nightmares and it worked good for her, perhaps it could work for you the same.
      Good luck!

I feel like the nightmare started for one reason, then continued because of your situation with your parents, which was always in a loop as well as your dream.

Also the fact that you needed to get to your parents shows your dependence on your parents, that might be another reason why it never stopped, because you didn't try other methods of protection.

I like the way you inferred the dependence on the parents, but it doesn't explain the origins of the condition which I think could be related with the link I provided:

The simplified version: The true meaning of the term is a certain medical condition which affects the ability to wake up or go to sleep properly. People with this condition feel as if they are trapped while either going to sleep or waking up. They have almost no strength to get up and often have a fearful experience. Sleep Paralysis is a medical condition refered to as a parasomnia.

You're giving your parents too much crap and need to pull your head out of your ass!
Midnight means the need to face reality.
Powerlessness to move means you're living in a conflict of your own making.
Unseen killer means an unknown part of your emotion is cut off.
The need to get to your parents' room means you know they are right and you are wrong.
You may not know why you're full of crap but you are and need to change.
