Do you believe in past lives?

Do any of you believe in past lives / reincarnation and cell memory? Why or why not?

I believe it's a possibility. There's a ton of convincing anecdotal evidence that shows people recalling things that they had no way of knowing. I also have a sense that my ego should be eternal, but that's not really logically established or anything. I would say that most people claiming to be reincarnated are jerking your lower extremity.

I believe I was the tooth-fairy in my past life. I'm devoting this life to searching for the bag of small-change that has to be worth TRILLIONS!

If you see it, let me know, and I'll give you a shiny fifty-cent piece, 'k?

I don't want to hear about the brain from someone that doesn't have one.
Nor do I want to hear about evolution from someone that hasn't evolved.

Yes, I firmly believe in past lives. I've seen and experienced far too much to believe otherwise.

And let's not turn this decent thread into garbage, guys. There's enough of that in the new Religion forum.

Ditto. I also believe in future lives as well. I believe that all will be reincarnated, somwehere, somehow.

At this point... no. I believe this is all I've got. I've seen no reason to believe otherwise.
From an official 'what my religion says' point of view, also no

From a Scientific POV, We are all forms of energy. Energy is neither created nor destroyed, just changed into a different form. Yes, I believe in past lives, and reincarnation.

Over the past couple thousand years, the population has grown by a factor of about 1000. And the population has doubled in the past 40 years. So this means that either a) most of us are first round humans (the chances of your soul being older than 150 is only 1 in 6), B) our 'souls' are just fractions of past souls, or c) there's no such thing as past lives.

I don't know. I used to think reincarnation was a real thing, but scientifically, it can't be proven. It isn't pracatical for me to bleieve in such a thing now anyway; I have no use for it, and it doesn't really help to become a better person....So....I don't know. I'll just have to wait and see.

I've considered it, but it doesn't fit in with my thinking. It doesn't explain where all these new souls come from and stuff like that. Essence that carries on from previous generations can live on in some form right now, but I don't believe in my soul just going from body to body over the years.

      I think I love you.

My mom thinks I'm Satan reborn... but I'm not sure that counts, as it's my current life.

As far as I know, I wasn't terribly special. There is only one life that is very vivid and could be considered 'special' (as in, I was actually someone sorta famous), but I'm not going to talk about it here. And no, I wasn't Cleopatra or anyone like that.

I don't believe in it. It would mean there would have to be some sort of devine power. And I have not seen a single proof for that.

In a sort of telepathy, or maybe subconsious seeing of some one elses though I do thing is a but more pausable.

Basically what Brady said. It's impossible for everybody to have been reincarnated in this life. Something new had to have been added to the system, or things wouldn't add up.

Though I've got to admit, the whole idea makes some people very interesting to learn about. Patton, for example. Great movie made about him, funny as hell. He was a real nutjob, but a successful one at that...

No. I believe our identity, personality, consciousness and all that good stuff is made up of the arrangement of our brain, formed mostly by experiences in our (current) life. I can see no sensible way for that to transfer from a dead body to a newborn baby or zygote.

Your assuming that all the souls have to come from this planet alone, and must only inhabit this planet.

Well, I'm assuming that most populations tend to grow over time. And I'm assuming that humans have unique souls (ie. a human soul is different than an alien soul).

could you clarify what you mean by this, thanks in advance, I mean the reasoning, and how it supports the soul argument.

I don't think we should associate souls with the body. We have the physical body, the astral body, which is just like the physical body except made of finer material, and when the astral body decays, we are left we just a pure ego. This ego can enter into any physical body he wants, wether it be alien or human.

I also believe that an infinite number of egos can be created from the "soul" of the universe. The universe is like one conciousness, but from that pieces can be seperated to create various egos.

i have a little theory on past and future lives... maybe... when the universe collapses on us.... all the crazy super kinectic energy released off us upon death... gets reincarnated on the new universe.... but ... im 12 turning 13... what do i know?
need to actually start like trying to LD i've pretty much started that now kinda.

Well I don't believe in souls at all. I'm just speaking hypothetically here.

      Basically what I'm saying is:

If populations tend to grow over time, there is a constant need for 'new' souls. So the majority of people alive today did not have a past life, they are a first round humans. This is especially true in souls are unique to humans.

The alien/dog/rodent soul argument opens up a whole new can of worms. Where is the dividing line? Do cats have souls? Do butterflies? Do amoebas? Do viruses?
