After all Ignorance is bliss right?
Not at all. I'm happier now than I was before. Besides, it's not like I was believing in a wonderful, benign god. It was the Christian god, after all.
Same as Mes. Christianity is a very non-fun and boring religion. Also, I'm way way happier now that I'm able to use logical reasoning instead of blind faith. Also I like knowing that instead of wishing every night I should go out and try to actually get things done. :P
If ignorance is bliss, then it is a very false sense of blissfulness. Knowledge is a burden only if you count that very few people agree with you, most people try to convert you or disregard a lot of what you say because of a lack of religious affiliation. Other than that, knowledge is the true blissfulness. One of the most blissful things is when you get to laugh at the religious people.
No, I like science, I've never ever had a religion, neither have my parents. I will never believe in magic.
That's like asking a sane person if they wish they were crazy. I never did believe it, so there's nothing to go back to. The ignorant don't always seem so blissful to me anyway.
One thing people don't seem to realize is, they are not believing in "God". What they are believing in, is the people who wrote the bible. They are hoping that whoever wrote the bible wasn't just messing around. They're putting all their faith into PEOPLE, not God.
As for the question, I think most people are content with not believing, its much more fun and makes life more interesting.
The message i'm getting here from a few people is the fire and brimstone stuff is a real turn off.
Hmm...I hope the pope is taking note of this.
I used to. When I was a kid, like first grade I think, I lied and said I believed in God so I wouldn't seem weird or something.
As I got older , in my teens, I tried to believe in God. People say how they feel a presence or whatever, I didn't feel anything. I researched a lot of religions, and over the years I came up with my own ideas about stuff.
You don't need a religion to teach you anything. A lot of people use the defense that the Bible is a good book to live by and stuff, but you learn all that stuff anyway I think. I could also never trust a book that old. Think of "the telephone game" over 2000 years...
PS!!!!! Where have you been buddy? I've missed arguing with you recently. I assume that it's for the same reason I had been absent that there wasn't really any good discussions going on.
There's some starting to emerge now, though. I think I just might have finished a good ole heated one.
Anyways, for the main point of this post. I really missed getting to read your hilariously stupid posts. ;) If only this one was worded a tiny bit different it would be my new signature quote. :rolllaugh:
Oh! I didn't see this one!
So, your point is that you can't pick and choose religions and should stay with the one you start with and take it for all of what it is?
THEN STOP TRYING TO CONVERT ME!
PS, you are worse than I remembered you from... a week ago?
Ok, well as long as we're on this subject, can you disprove the existence of the Flying Spaghetti Monster? He is capable of changing all of our measurements so that its impossible to measure him. Are you going to believe in him simply because you can't DIS-prove him?
Ooh... another one!
I'll take it:
No, you can't disprove it, but you also can't prove it. With science, you can always prove it, but never disprove it.
You talked about gravity in a recent post. We can always prove gravity, and it will never fail a test of it. You can never prove God though, and, while you can't disprove it, it is still far off from science.
But UM didn't say that. What he said is that he wouldn't wish to believe in the standard Christian god, though he would like to believe in the god he mentioned. He didn't say "I wish I believed that religion and hell were real but I'd still not believe in hell".
You're mean the FSM?
