Picking a dream before you fall asleep?

I remember when I was little, back when I still thought there were monsters around me when I closed my eyes, I would have like a dream wheel. I would close my eyes and imagine what type of dream i would have. I remember one time there were 4 options. A dream involving a witch, a dream were I got to go to disney land, a dream were I didn't have to go to school, and i can't remember the last one but it had to do something with outer space. So i remember picturing myself like on a game show spinning the wheel and it landed on disney land, i remember being really excited like I was actually going to disney land. And I don't remember if I had that dream. So one of these days when I actually master LD, I would like to try this and see if it works. Has anybody done something similar to this?

I've done this quite a few times, as have many others! It's called dream incubation, and basically involves imagining and daydreaming about a certain dream you want to have. Usually incubation involves actually visualizing the location and scenarios you want to experience, but the wheel is an interesting variation on it.
We all live in a kind of continuous dream. When we wake, it is because something,
some event, some pinprick even, disturbs the edges of what we have taken as reality.

Yeah, I've done it too few times. I remember once I woke up during the nigth and went back asleep. I really wanted to dream of driving a jet plane and I actually did dreamt about it. There was other time when I woke up from dream and I badly wanted back so I visualized the environment and few details that I've rememberd and yeah I was back in the same dream. So, actually it's possible to dream dreams you want to. At least concept of it if nothing.

When I was a kid I had a very interesting experience of incubation. It was one of those saturdays when you have no reason to get up, I think I was around the age of 6. I was lying there daydreaming about the Land Before Time (I know ) and suddenly I was there! I was controlling the experience. It was my first lucid dream before I even knew what lucid dreaming was, when I woke up I ran into my parent's room and told them about it, they said I was just daydreaming, but I knew it was more than that.

I think sometimes kids can pick up intuitively what adults have to train and work for.

Always, no sometimes think it's me,
But you know I know when it's a dream
      I think I know I mean a yes
      But it's all wrong
That is I think I disagree

I programmed a function that takes a block of text that you can paste and then flashes each word real fast on the screen. The results in my dreams however, are not very predictable.

I also would experience the dream wheel phenomena when I was younger. I would also have vivid hallucinations and would pass between waking state and dreaming state quickly.
