Thumbs up

In order to vote in the poll - please complete the following short VAK test below (takes 2mins):
VAK TEST

If you can be bothered there are two more slightly different VAK tests on the same website - combining the results of all three may give a more accurate picture: VAK dominance test and VAK survey

The VAK (visual, auditory, kinesthetic) learning modes can help understand how a person learns and thinks. The test will show which are your strongest learning modes - or may show a multimodal approach.
NB we all tend to use all the modes - some just favour certain modes, more or less strongly. An understanding of this can be particularly helpful when teaching/ learning, as the teaching method can be tailored to the student's learning mode.

I am particularly interested in RCs and learning modes. i.e. I would hypothesise that the best RC for an individual would be one that taps the strengths of their learning mode. This came out of a discussion HERE

EDIT - Link to a post where I try to categorise Reality Checks by VAK Learning Mode:
Fine-tune your lucid dream induction method

If possible could you also provide further information as follows - with notes if desired:

VAK type is ?:
KVA (my results)

Do you DILD? If so, how?
Most of the time its just a feeling something is dreamlike(K &?VA) - often its trying to fly(K), occassionally by looking at my hands(V) or finger-through-hand(VK)

Do you do waking RCs? If so, which? And do they work - i.e. do you find yourself doing them in a DILD?
Occassionally try to just feel if its real or not(K), also look at hands(V) and finger-through-hand(V&K).
So... according to the hypothesis I should perhaps be doing more 'feels like a dream?' and/or 'can I fly?' type RCs.

I was VKA but I won't vote since I've only just started Lucid Dreaming and have only ever really had a Semi Lucid Dream.

I LD about once a week. According to the test, I'm KAV, but I feel I'm closer to multimodal. Basically, I remember almost everything I've ever heard, seen or done, especially minor things like bits of trivia.

Do you DILD? If so, how?
Sometimes I tend to just "know" whenever I dream, and I try to reinforce the feeling by telling myself that I dream. Either that, or I tend to look at my hands. In the middle of the night, I usually do some maths, in order to increase the chance to get a LD.

Do you do waking RCs? If so, which? And do they work - i.e. do you find yourself doing them in a DILD?
I do a few RCs in waking reality. Sometimes I try to feel stuff. But most of the times, I just look at my hands, and then ask myself whether I am dreaming. "No, I'm not dreaming, but it could be a possibility."

Natural or Learnt LDer? [N/L]:
N/L (I used to be able to do it around one time a month. However, since I started actively studying lucid dreaming by performign exercises, I significantly increased my lucid dream ratio)

Perceived Duration of LDs

3 (I wish my LDs had a better quality, they usually last around 5 - 30 seconds...)

Hey... good topic. Heres my info:

VAK type is:[/b] KAV (21,14,13)

Do you DILD? If so, how?[/b]
Yes... Sometimes just know im dreaming (usually cos of my dreamsign fear/being chased), sometimes nose RC.

Do you do waking RCs? If so, which? And do they work - i.e. do you find yourself doing them in a DILD?[/
Yes i do the nose RC at least 30+ times/day. And it works extremely well for me.

Well learnt, but i seem to be picking it up faster than i could ever have hoped for.(but maybe cos im exceptionally dedicated)

(with MY results)
VAK type is: Multimodal (15,21,20)

Do you DILD? If so, how?
Both times I've successfully LD'd I've used audio to induce it. I just sort of catch a glimpse of what he's saying, and remember that I'm dreaming, (sort of. Enough to inspire a RC)

Do you do waking RCs? If so, which? And do they work - i.e. do you find yourself doing them in a DILD?
Yes. Frequently I do the nose one, sometimes I do the hand one. Both times I have RC'd in my dream to reinforce the knowledge that I am dreaming.

Do you DILD? If so, how?

Most often, I can immediately tell whether or not I am in a dream... My dreams tend to carry a sensory ambiance, so to speak, that real life does not have.

Do you do waking RCs? If so, which? And do they work - i.e. do you find yourself doing them in a DILD?

Only very recently have I attempted to perform Reality Checks regularly, and so far I cannot report any success with them.

Do you DILD? If so, how?
Most of the time it has been through realizing some mechanical failure in which I am involved. This means flipping a lightswitch or having my car breaks not work.

Do you do waking RCs? If so, which? And do they work - i.e. do you find yourself doing them in a DILD?
Ocassionally I do an RC, usually in the form of looking at my hands, holding my nose, re-reading text. The only reality check I have done in a dream has been to flip a lightswitch.

Heres mine:

VAK type is: VKA or maybe multimodal (19-13-15)

Do you DILD? If so, how?
yes, thats the only way I get LDs. Sometimes I spontaneously realize that Im dreaming, or something a bit unusual happens and then do a RC

Do you do waking RCs? If so, which? And do they work - i.e. do you find yourself doing them in a DILD?
I do waking RC when I remember to, and mainly when something unusual happens (coincidences, strange feelings like deja vu...) but always determined to show that Im dreaming (I assume that Im dreaming until I get several solid proofs that Im awake, I never do them routinely).

My favourite RCs are: looking for extra/lost/blurry fingers in my hand, reading a text twice and trying to breath while blocking my nose holes (dont know how to say the last one in English ).

I become lucid in many dreams after doing a RC and failing it

I took the tests and it was true for me! K was slightly higher than A, but Visual was usually double the rest.

VAK type is: VKA

Do you DILD? If so, how?
Yes. For the last while, I became Lucid by plugging my nose. But nowadays, I just suddenly cry out loud "I am dreaming" just seconds after I realise I am dreaming. These dreams seem to have more control and are longer than the nose-plugging kind.

Do you do waking RCs? If so, which? And do they work - i.e. do you find yourself doing them in a DILD? Yes, I do waking RC (when I remember). I do the nose plugging RC. Usually I do them for DILDs, but the past few Lucid Dreams I became Lucid just by "knowing"

VAK type is: VKA, like one third of voters, interestingly enough.

Do you DILD? If so, how?
Yes. I don't know what the trigger is, I just at some point realize it's a dream. I can see absurd things without reacting, and then become lucid while I'm doing a common task.

Do you do waking RCs? If so, which? And do they work - i.e. do you find yourself doing them in a DILD?
Do waking RCs, but never remember to do them in my dreams.

Do you DILD? If so, how?
Yes, most of the time something will just click, or I will do an RC when i see a dreamsign.

Do you do waking RCs? If so, which? And do they work - i.e. do you find yourself doing them in a DILD?

Funny thing happened. I vote and then take the test and they both end up the same.

Breathe thru nose(K), also look at hands(V) and finger-through-hand(V&K).

Multimodal, equally visual and auditory, with kinesthetic coming in at third.

Do you DILD? If so, how?
Usually I just automatically know that I'm dreaming, for no noticeable reason.

Do you do waking RCs? If so, which? And do they work - i.e. do you find yourself doing them in a DILD?
I do finger counting, finger through hand, look at my nose, and try breathing through a pinched nose as my reality checks. They have some success, but I don't need them for most of my DILDs.

Natural or Learnt LDer? [N/L]:

I have a little natural talent, but without trying to induce LDs I only ever have a couple, short LDs a year.

Frequency of LDs

2

Perceived Duration of LDs
[10+ minutes = 1, 1-10 minutes = 2, 1-60 seconds = 3]:
2
Usually two, but just barely, with occasional 3s.

Control of/in LDs
[1 = god-like total; 2 = control over DCs, and dream world with advanced abilities such as telekinesis, teleport, manifesting etc; 3 = full awarness of dream, full conscious control of 'normal' self; 4 = aware of dreaming, some control of self]:
3
As far as I can remember, I have yet to have a LD where I control more than myself.

Thanks to everyone who's posted so far!

Looks like VKA is in the lead. I need to find out what the proportions are for the general population.

It seems like many people agree that although they practice RCs they don't find themselves doing them in dreams - its just a general awareness of something dreamlike. I don't know how significant this is in terms of how we teach people LDing? I wonder if there are techniques for improving general awareness that work to increase this dream awareness? I've been trying a few - but my ideas are still gestating...

Then there's the Tibetan advice to declare all as a dream!

Who was the other person who got AKV as this is the lowest. I wonder if learning mode/style has anything to do with lucid dreaming.

Do you DILD? If so, how?
I've never used an RC in a dream to become lucid, it always just hits me. I'valways had difficulty pinpointing the exact reason for which I became lucid.

Do you do waking RCs? If so, which? And do they work - i.e. do you find yourself doing them in a DILD?
During waking life, I do an RC at the top of every hour because of my digital watch, usually by glancing a few times at my watch or the ol' 'finger through the hand' technique. Also, I do an RC whenever anything questionable/unusual happens, of course.

Natural or Learnt LDer? [N/L]:
Learnt? I had my first LD after having seen Waking Life. Before then I had never known of their existence. So, it didn't take much, I guess.

[1-5 /night = 1, 1-5 /week = 2, 1-5 /month = 3, 1-5/year = 4, never = 5]:
2, usually about 2 a week but I have my dry spells

Perceived Duration of LDs
[10+ minutes = 1, 1-10 minutes = 2, 1-60 seconds = 3]:
2, with a couple that lasted a bit longer

Control of/in LDs
[1 = god-like total; 2 = control over DCs, and dream world with advanced abilities such as telekinesis, teleport, manifesting etc; 3 = full awarness of dream, full conscious control of 'normal' self; 4 = aware of dreaming, some control of self]:
2, exactly. I've never had god-like abilities but all that other stuff is no problem.

KVA (Multimodel)

Do you DILD:
Usually I notice someting odd then do a RC. More often then not it tends to be something someone has said. Other times I just do a random RC and become Lucid.

Do you do waking RC's...:
Yes I do, and yes they work, ablit sparingly. I do them often during the day, maybe one every 20 minutes.

N/L:
Learnt.

Freqency:
3 (But improving )

Perceived Duration of LD's:
1, I would say avreging out at 30 minutes. But the good ones are past an hour.

Control:
1, however in one lucid dream I had a hard time with telekinesis once. Other then that, the world is my playground.
I had a strange dream last night...

Do you DILD? If so, how?
Every single one of my LDs were DILD. I simply "wake up" in the dream and know I am dreaming instantly most of themt ime. Soemtimes I'll just be folling the dream while not-lucid and instantly I'll be like "this is a dream" for no reason.

Do you do waking RCs? If so, which? And do they work - i.e. do you find yourself doing them in a DILD?
Nope. Never do RCs

I used to be a 2 but I went down to a 3 and now I am probably imbetween a 3 and a 4.

Perceived Duration of LDs
[10+ minutes = 1, 1-10 minutes = 2, 1-60 seconds = 3]:

Almost always one, sometimes a 2 and rarely a 3.

Sometimes I'll have godlike control, but about 95% of LDs are a 2.
