The Lab is now open for business. Please remember that this forum is for scientific investigation only. All senseless posts will be removed.

In order for this to be meaningful, please follow the scientific method as closely as possible.

What is the "scientific method''?

The scientific method is the best way yet discovered for winnowing the truth from lies and delusion. The simple version looks something like this:

1. Observe some aspect of the universe.
2. Invent a tentative description, called a hypothesis, that is consistent with what you have observed.
3. Use the hypothesis to make predictions.
4. Test those predictions by experiments or further observations and modify the hypothesis in the light of your results.
5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 until there are no discrepancies between theory and experiment and/or observation.

When consistency is obtained the hypothesis becomes a theory and provides a coherent set of propositions which explain a class of phenomena. A theory is then a framework within which observations are explained and predictions are made.

I suggest you use the following flow of events as a guideline for experimentation.

1. Propose an Idea for the experiment.
2. Allow a brief period of discussion to refine the experiment
3. Propose a hypothesis
4. Develop the methods by which you will test your hypothosis (don't forget variables and controls!)
5. Perform your experiment (allow enough time to gather data)
6. Analyze your data
7. Post your conclusions
8. Discuss the results of the experiement
9. Lock the topic

Do not forget to note all variables.. Since these experiments will most likely be dealing with human subjects, there will be many variables to monitor and control.
Use controls where applicable.

The person who initially proposes the experiment is the one in charge. He/she is responsible for keeping the experiment on track and posting the results.

Good luck! Let's go do some science!
