      Wish me luck

I applied for the IT department at the local car dealership. My dad's their photographer, 2 of my sisters work there doing detailing, and my brother-in-law works there with them. I spoke with the guy who is quitting and I'd be replacing and he said I should hear from his boss in a few days. I spoke with the guy who's kinda in charge of the IT department, but he's not the official boss. He said he'll try to get the ball rolling on it and talk with his boss. If his boss doesn't call me, then he will and let me know what's up. I called his boss but I only got voicemail. I guess the boss isn't putting the opening in the paper and is leaving it up to all the guys in the department to find someone. So, hopefully it will work out. They are in walking distance of my place and I'd be making at least $10 an hour, maybe more, and it's salary.

I earn more than that working part-time at a restaurant. But I guess living expenses are small in the US....

I think England is generally better, especially down here X - But if you think about it we pay £200,000 ($400,000) for a decent flat (appartment) here, where as you could get an awesome house over there for that!!!!!

Anyway fella, good luck and keep us updated

O_O WTF?!? $400,000 for an apartment? You could get like 2 houses for that much or 4 ramblers. But still man.

Wait, you guys buy the apartment? How much is the monthly payment?

Well, most of the people I'd be working with make twice that much. This is just entry-level. Plus I don't have any schooling for it. $10 would be the minimum, but my dad was thinking more like $12. Minimum wage here is $7.80 an hour.

My monthly rent is $540 and that's a 2-bedroom apartment. Car insurance is $29 a month for me, but that's not because of where I live. Most people I know have their car insurance from $100-$200 a month.

I won't hear anything until at least Monday because they won't work again until then. I'm going to call the main boss at that time.

I'm going to call the boss guy tomorrow. If I don't get it, my brother-in-law is a manager at a car dealership and my brother works for him. He said if I don't get this job, he can pretty much guarantee that I'll get the one with him. I want the IT one more, though.

You merely have to change your point of view slightly, and then that glass will sparkle when it reflects the light.

      Recent updates:

I called the boss guy today. I got him on the phone. I said who I was and asked if I could set up an interview. He said he's been away and is just now getting to "compiling" the applications. He said I should hear back from him sometime after mid week. MID WEEK?

Thanks. It's not just insurance, I have internet, electricity, cell phone.

But 54 hours a month isn't that much. 40 hours a week is normal full-time. 8 hours a day, 5 days a week. Working that, I'd make $1600 a month before taxes, which is about $1200 after. I think you may be confusing weeks and months.

No, I wasnt confused I just meant that you really have to work your ass off to keep up with the bills and you'd never get to save much money. Plus most of the lower paying jobs are harder than the jobs people are getting paid $100,000 a year for. You should get a roommate so you split the cost.

you going to college? what about health insurance?

Ah, I see. Yeah, I never have any money to save. It's been that way all my life. I did have a roommate but she broke up with me and moved out, lol. I'm pretty picky when it comes to roommates and for the moment I like living alone.

No health insurance right now. I don't go to college. I'd move back into my parents' house but they are very strict Christians and don't allow such things as pornography or cussing and whatnot. I wouldn't be surprised if they disallowed me to use my own computer unless they put parental controls on it (because they have an obligation to God to keep anything of a sinful nature out of their house to maintain a pure home). Of course I could always bypass the parental controls (like I did for my profile on this computer, which is their's) but they would keep checking up on it. Hardly any privacy in this house at all.

Plus, there's really no room for my computer anyway.

Too damn right. The house market at the moment is broken. There is no way an average Joe like me'll be able to afford a house. A house costs around £300,000 ($600,000) here. The mortgage on that would bleed someone dry, there'd be no money left to spend on anything.

What angers me is that nothing is being done about it. "Cheap housing", instead of being constructed by the Housing Association, are being constructed by private companies who go on to sell these "cheap" homes at crippling market prices. I read about a £70,000 housing scheme somewhere where the homes actually cost about £250,000.

Any cheap house is bought by that slimy, greedy breed of human known as the property developer, a multitude of which have watched Property Ladder and thought there was nothing immoral about buying a house for development instead of letting people who actually need somewhere to live buy it. Then they do it up and sell it at unpurchasable prices. #

As I've said nothing is being done. Makes me so angry
