I really wasn't so much making an argument against technique because this would be absurd since anything we do to obtain a LD is a technique. It can't be gotten around. I was more trying to argue that we need a different mindset.
Exactly. EamonWill, I just wanted to drop by to tell you that this "Be a Lucid Dreamer" "technique" does work. I believe I told you this earlier. For the past few nights I have been getting Lucid dreams by doing literally nothing except dream journaling to remember them. Always believe in yourself man, just because they say you can't do it, doesn't mean you can't. Their disbelief gives you an even better reason to succeed to show them that anything is possible.

      Goals:
-Become Lucid in every dream every night
      -Perfect the time dilation watch
-Continue to have a dream plan for most of my lucid dreams

Thanks, lol. I'm glad this is working for someone other than just myself. I haven't had that many LD lately (I kinda fell off the wagon, not that I wan't going through the motions of trying, but it wasn't authentic) but the ones I have had are my best yet. Vivid, long, calm, happy, and very nice DCs!!! I have more confidence and less doubt and that is exactly the key. I had to change my mindset.
Unfortunately, I don't think I can prove it to anyone. If anyone is convinced that this won't work for them, it won't. Point blank. You can't change your mindset if you aren't willing.

Btw, two LDs this morning broke my dry spell! Yay! It wasn't from my technique, or any technique I've heard of. It was like WILD, and I've been doing this ever since I tried SSILD, but it's not either. I will be dreaming, non-lucid, and then the dream will end and as it ends I will go through hynogogic like sensations. I will feel my body vibrate and see flashing lights. I don't realize I was just dreaming, but I do immediately gain lucidity and I believe that I'm falling asleep and entering a dream. The first time I woke up, but this morning I actually did just transition into a "lucid FA." Basically, I entered a new dream where I felt myself in bed. I knew it was probably a FA so I waited for the dream to stabilize. I felt confident when I felt myself drift out of bed and float down to hover just over the floor, lol. I did a RC and confirmed it. I went about my LD. Then as this LD ended I felt the same vibrations and saw the same lights so I held lucidity again and went into another lucid FA and had another LD. This is really cool because it's a great way to learn how to WILD/SSILD (if you are like me and have never been successful), it's a great way to enjoy lucid nREM, and it's a great way to chain LD. Don't know if anyone has done this before but I would call it "Dream Transition Induced Lucid Dreaming" or DTILD. After a quick internet search revealed nothing, and I'm pretty confident I know most techniques, I don't think anyone is talking about this yet! They should, it's awesome!

That about sums up exactly whether or not someone will be able to do the "technique" lol.

Congrats on your 2 LDs man, nice long ones are the best(Lucid Dreams). And yeah I can't say I've ever heard of DTILD, you might have just created something haha

So, somebody else pointed out that I basically did a DEILD. They are mostly right, but minus the dream incubation part.

DEILD: Wake up, realize you were just dreaming, lay still, remember dream, go back into dream lucid

Me: Come out of dream (starting to wake up?), think I'm falling asleep, go into next dream lucid

I think dream incubation is hard so I'm not gonna try it. I'm sticking with "my method." Maybe later I can try a true DEILD.

It is possible to forget a lucid dream, and then possible to recall it
(I count 5 historic dreams in my LD count but here is an accounting of my first of my recent lucid dreams which I had after 2.5 months of RC and doing nothing else except dream journal, no meditation, no incubation etc)

IT WORKED LAST TIME!!! suddenly I remembered my 3 minute first recent lucid dream. I was outside my house walking out the front sidewalk in the center of our entirely rocked yard. There were no cars on the street but at least 50 people walking along, and it was broad daylight (I think it must have been several minutes into a false awakening) I thought this can't be real. So I brought up my hand. 1,2,3,4,5 What this is real? No way? closed hand then opened again 1,2,3,4 and a transparent pinky makes 5. WHAT? Staring at the pinky it becomes very solid. All the people in the street are standing still now (that had all been walking towards the main street in the same direction at the same pace). As I stared at my hand I noticed that my fingers didn't seem as stubby as usual, so two of them decided to get in character and started to shrink, then they began to twist and distort a bit bending and rotating and continuing to shrink as I stared constantly at my pinkey. [I want to point out that my RC served 3 purposes for this dream 1) detection 2) focus and stabilization 3) recall (because I had actually forgotten the whole thing)]
earlier tonight I tried some meditation (I don't know crap about meditation I just breathed in and as I breathed out and said some lame incubation stuff), I don't know what effect it will have on next cycle but I hadn't remembered my previous dream and I had been up for like 20+ minutes and then the meditation, but suddenly in the middle of the supposed meditation
the monorail, the bike, the casino, the co-ed-bathroom, the marathon, the electric vehicles
I opened the dream journal and wrote down from the electric vehicles to the emergency vehicle because I only recovered those 8 minutes or so (better than nothing)

Looks like I have also caught up and passed you in LD count EamonWill, sure Sageous has a slight lead but for how long

Ahh thats unfortunate man. You've probably heard it alot, but a consistent sleep schedule helps SO MUCH when LDing. Its so underrated by many LDers I think. Once you really get a consistent sleep cycle thats when the consistent LDs come in, and suddenly LDing becomes alot easier. Good luck tonight man!

Yes, I've done that before. But I don't think my mind can work clearly enough for that right now. I'm only sleeping long enough to get nREM sleep and then right when the long REM cycles are supposed to kick in, bam, I'm up for good.

I try so hard to get proper, consistent sleep. But the more I try to sleep the less I sleep. I don't even respond to supplements. (Please tell me how I can drink SleepyTime Extra tea and take a sleeping pill and still not sleep!!!) It's an anxiety thing I guess. It also has a lot to do with body chemistry. Something is way off with me lately. My moods are wacky and I've had migraines every day, sometimes all day, for a week. I keep telling myself I should meditate, but there is no motivation even though I know it would help. How stupid and counter intuitive is that? It just seems like so much work when I already have so little energy. And with a pounding head who can relax??? But, I don't have a migraine now and I am desperate so I'm gonna meditate tonight. Cross your fingers for me!

I finally broke the cycle of insomnia last night. I drank lots of SleepyTime Extra tea and took two sleeping pills (the over the counter kind that are like Benedryl. They usually knock me out even if I only have a half of one, but I wanted to make sure I slept.) I also did about 20 min of stretches while clearing my mind and listening to soothing music and then did about 20 min of meditation. I went to bed with positive intent to sleep well.
      I woke up at 4:45!
I tried not to let it bother me because I like doing natural WBTB anyway, but I could feel a little worry creep in. I went back to bed... and laid there... and laid there... and tossed... and turned... "Ugh, how is this happening?" I asked myself. I knew waiting for sleep was useless so I grabbed my Sudoku book and started doing puzzles. My intent was to do as many as it took to wear myself out mentally. After about two I couldn't do anymore and tried to sleep again. No luck. Then I realized it was my bed! It wasn't comfortable enough! I won't bore you with the details, but I fixed my bed and slept soundly for several more hours. Best of all, I had two more lucid dreams last night!!! They were a bit unstable and I couldn't remember my dream goals, but they were fun! And who cares anyway, I was lucid! Finally! It feels so good! I woke up feeling really refreshed and happy today and I am back on track. I meditated for about 30 min this morning and I started doing my mantras again too!
I'm still going to buy melatonin today since it's on sale at my local grocery store. It seems that the other stuff isn't working anymore and I really don't want to have to go through this again! The only thing keeping me from being lucid is a lack of sleep and I'm not going to let that happen!

Sooo... I tried Melatonin for the first time three nights ago... and it's amazing. I slept soundly, had a LD in which I finally succeeded in accomplishing a very important dream goal, and woke up the next morning feeling incredible!!! I used it the next two nights as well but the results weren't as good because my sleep schedule was thrown off. Still, I'm really happy that I bought it. It feels good to be able to sleep and dream again!

Melatonin is great and it doesn't give me any real trouble. I eat tons of it.

but in females it can cause spotting, and other menstrual issues, so females should be careful, and if Pregnant its a spontaneous abortion waiting to happen if you eat it like I do, so Don't

What if we used these as mantras while drifting off to sleep for WBTB as well? (in addition to meditation)
That way we can surely instill these concepts within our conscious and subconscious, and it will be fresh on our minds when we enter REM.
      Just an idea

Yep, mantras in WBTB is an excellent plan.

Very true. I was researching Melatonin before I took it and it's an important element in regulating a woman's cycle. It may help some women who are having issues, but it could cause problems for others! I kinda feel like a safety announcement saying this, but it might be best to speak with your doctor if you are concerned or notice irregularities.

I think that's a great idea, however, that sounds like it's bordering more on MILD which works best with a short, simple phrase. Maybe doing a short meditation on these ideas during your WBTB time and then doing a MILD mantra as you fall asleep would be a more effective combination. Maybe this is something to play around with in the future?

I saw a YouTube video on a cool LD technique (as in something you can play around with in the dream, not on how to have one) and tried it last night but I woke up before I could really test it out. It seemed like it might have worked otherwise!
