I've always had this problem, but it flares up sometimes and lies dormant at other times. Whenever I get into a REM cycle, I always wake up right at the end of it. I know that you do wake up after each one, and aren't supposed to be aware of it, but I fully wake up after each one. I usually can't fall asleep for a while and then it just repeats. When I become lucid at the end of dreams my mind just wakes itself up and I have no clue why. I'm having horrible REM sleep deprivation lately. Usually when I do wake up I can't sleep for hours. It gets to the point where I feel groggy and sick and really off for a while. I can't seem to stop fully waking up. It used to just occur every once in a while and I'd have a bout of this, but lately it's been constant. I have to take benadryl for my allergies, which knocks most people out, and on top of that I take a melatonin and I still can't fall asleep. It just feels like my mind won't shut off. Then when I finally do, I keep waking up.
What's causing this?
