Possiblity For A Lucid Dream Machine

As the title says, there might be a possibility that there can be a headset that allows a person to lucid dream every night of their life without having to use a technique. The everlasting mystery of human consciousness has been the reason why we have not been able to pin point why it is we lucid dream. Most people thought that maybe consciousness was just a happening, a phenomena of sorts that could not be explained....until now. Francis Crick (one of the DNA guys) years back had hypothesized that the center for human consciousness may actually lie deep within the brain named the Claustrum. It functions as an integrator. All of your senses, working memory, etc come from there various places in the brain, and then they are put through this area which results in the output of human consciousness. That is why you don't just see then hear, then smell. You are capable of doing all of these at the same time because this is where it is all combined. In a recent experiment with scientist Mohamad Koubeissi, he and his team were probing a woman's brain and electrically stimulating parts of it. Then all of a sudden they stimulated her Claustrum and she became unconscious. When returned to a normal state, she had no recollection of the experience. After a couple trials and tests to ensure she was truly unconscious, they came to the conclusion that the Claustrum was in fact the center to consciousness.
With that said, this opens the possibility of making a headset of sorts that stimulates the Claustrum (without going completely Matrix need in the head) and turning on consciousness when you begin REM so that lucid dreaming can be achieved.
It needs to be: humane, safe, and easy to adjust to. (meaning you can take it off in the morning)
However, it could be a pill of some sort, but that is much more complex and direct stimulation is much more reliable.
Tell me guys some ideas you think might work.

We lucid dream because we have access to our waking life memory during our dreams which allows us to remember what a dream is during our dream so we can identify it as such. If one is recalling their dreams, they are already as conscious as they need to be to lucid dream. Their attention is just somewhere other than anything dream related. That's why the headsets these days have lights or recordings to redirect ones attention to something dream related.

The problem is that there is a flaw in this argument: indeed consciousness is presented as a unitary phenomenon, even if constructed by many individual processes. But the theory presented is (almost) completely irrelevant to a case advocating for the creation of a lucid dreaming machine. Although lucid dreaming is perceived to be in a particular state of consciousness, it doesn't mean "consciousness" is turned off when you dream...that not only makes no sense, but also contradicts everything else you've said in your post.

Also, we do indeed know why we lucid dream: it's an ephiphenomenon provoked by a disregulation of sleep states via activation of certain processes of self-monitoring that disrupt the normal flow of the dream. We don't have yet the full details, but we can easily see via fMRI what is happening when the brain is turning lucid. If you want to talk about consciousness, you'd be only entitled to do so in the basis of "meta-consciousness", which is a concept in which lucid dreamers have been showing promises of help in research. But consciousness itself? (Normal) dreaming might be much more helpful to answer that question.

So regardless of whether we prove that the "source" of consciousness (personally I don't believe there is a single source, but that's besides the point), the development of a lucid dreaming machine is an entire different (and much easier I'd say) problematic to solve.

PS: when I answer the "why" part I offer the explanation for why it occurs, we really have no evidence that lucid dreaming has a purpose, if anything, lucid dreaming is something with no evolutionary basis, and we've yet to determine whether it can actually be harmful to our sleep/dreaming functions.

I don't see why not. There already is the novadreamer but I guess that due to its lack of popularity it isn't very effective, and is perhaps annoying to use. I wouldn't expect such a machine to be developed any time soon though since as far as I know no one is focused on building one. Perhaps you should become the inventor.

      ^^ For what it's worth:

The NovaDreamer (ND) is not a rarity because it is ineffective, but because it is simply unavailable. LaBerge, who invented the ND, might be an expert at LD'ing, but he is not a very good manufacturer or marketer (nor is he interested in letting someone else do that work). His ND, which hasn't been produced in almost 20 years, was a very good product (and his earlier DreamLight even better -- and far less annoying), and the promised ND2 will likely be even more effective, if it ever becomes available (it's been promised for over a decade now).

So an effective product has indeed been invented, and built -- it's just that the guy who invented it and built it isn't too terribly interested in producing more.

He's not an ophthalmologist either. I wouldn't use it if it was free because I have sensitive eyes and question if flashing red lights in my eyes is safe.

Hahaha yeah I'm still a little annoyed by that. "Coming Soon, The ND 2!!" their website still says. I think it's still better for oneirnauts to learn on their own without having to depend on anything though.
