Mind Awake, Body Asleep - Sleep Paralysis Induction Tutorial

It turns out the synchronization between mind and body isn't as close as we might expect. The body doesn't know exactly when your mind has fallen asleep, and for survival reasons would be dangerous for the body to go to sleep before the mind has.

So what happens is the body tests the mind to see if it's asleep. If you lay with a silent mind very still for about 25 minutes and are nicely relaxed, your body will eventually send a very strong signal to your mind saying "I'm uncomfortable, please shift your position in bed."

But this is just a ruse! The body is not really uncomfortable, it's just testing to see if it can get a response from the mind. If you ignore this signal, your body waits a few seconds and says "Hmm, the mind must have gone to sleep. Time for me to do the same."

At that point you will literally feel a wave of heaviness come over the body. This wave takes about 5 seconds to complete, and when it's done your body has fallen asleep. This wave is a very odd and distinct feeling. It's something you can't miss. Before you get the uncomfortable sensation you may also feel a little dizzy as if there's a balloon in your upper body and head that's expanding against the inside of your skull and skin. It's not very much pressure but it is there.

There will be no doubt that your body has gone to sleep. If you have silicone putty earplugs in it will be easy to listen to your hearing shift from physical hearing into real time hearing.

So the trick is to lie still until out of nowhere you get a sudden and strong urge to shift your position. It will not be easy to resist it; the body will be somewhat adamant. But if you persist in your deception and fool the body into thinking your mind is asleep then it will follow, and then there you are in mind awake/body asleep!

You'll have the best luck with this on somewhat less sleep than you usually get then do your attempt in the morning or during your afternoon REM cycle at about 2:00 or 3:00. The first time I got this to work I had only gotten about 3-4 hours of sleep the night before, maybe half my usual sleep time.

For the time you're laying still be completely still, including your eyes. Don't move your eyes even to look at hypnagogics.

It's very easy for the mind the fall asleep doing this, you may benefit using a self-repeating timer as a safety net to keep your mind awake.

And it was all thanks to this post. I counted down from 100, and at 50 I felt this funny feeling on my left foot, but I remembered "don't do anything, it might be a test" so I ignored it and that buzzing noise came and I felt the waves! I'm so excited, seeing that this is the first progress I made in WILD since I started attempting 2 months ago. My efforts have been receding recently, but this is a huge moral boost. No I KNOW I can do this with more work. I didn't get past this stage because I haven't really read what to do after SP but I'm going to work on it. I can't wait!

Some people are skeptical, but the method you have described is truly the Holy grail of succeeding with WILD. I agree completely with the tutorial. For example, in one of my early WILD attempts, I started noticing that I would only get to the sleep state if I did not move AT ALL for a long enough amount of time. If I moved my eye even a little wee bit consciously, my sleep state would be further postponed. This method you describe is truly the simple answer for WILD success, as myself can attest to. I use "simple" lightly, because although it seems to come easy for me, I know of many people who find it almost IMPOSSIBLE to stay completely still for the required time. You really need a lot of patience and dedication to attain complete stillness for just long enough.

      Happy lucid dreaming!

I read this method of Lucid dreaming yesterday evening, and at about 4.00am woke up and decided to give it a go.

I was laying on my side and began to feel quite uncomfortable but stuck with it then i felt vibrations that was followed by a wave of relaxation that swept across my body, next thing that happend can best be described by me as seeing about a dozen different pattened wallpapers appearing one after the other with about a one second pause between each, then i found myself observing a cartoon type scene i kind of stepped into this and then was in a full lucid dream.

The dream only lasted about two minutes even though i rubbed my hands together a couple of times to try to secure it, i travelled about a 100 yards or so in the dream world observing the dcs etc.

I would like to say a very big thanks for posting this method , up until last night all my lds have been dilds this was also only the second time i have ever had any vibrations that i have been aware of, and on the first time which was some months ago they led to nothing.

I am really happy with last nights results and will be trying this in future.

patience is required, but if you keep your eyes perfectly still and your body perfectly still (and your body is already tired) it shouldn't take you that long. Your eyes can be quieted down by turning the lights off 30 minutes before you turn in for sleep.

Are you suggesting that this is the best way to enter SP while attempting a WILD?

Yes, in my personal opinion I do. Because you're using the body's own biology to trick it into falling asleep, no visualizations, or mantras, or chants, or meditations involved...the reason this technique works and works so well is because it works strictly on a biological level.

Huh, well thanks I will have to give it a shot. So far none of the just concentrating stuff works for me.

So let me see if I understand what you are saying. Just lay perfectly still and ignore any signs that my body says it's uncomfortable, then I will have entered SP? So what do I do with my mind to enter a LD from that point?

Lie completely still, (works best if you're body's tired) even your eyes must be still, do not scratch your itches, they are tests the body sends to the mind to see if you will scratch yourself or not, if you do...your internal clock will reset, some other tests the body will send the mind to test if it's still awake are twitches, jerks and in some instances flops, also avoid the swallowing reflex by tilting your head up ever so slightly *like under a towel or something*) I can't tell you when it will happen...How long it takes depends entirely on how long you can go being completely still, being tired enough, and not having too much on your mind(because too many thoughts on the mind can keep you awake, just watch your thoughts passively, like on a movie screen, don't force them out just let them flow for a bit and your mind will eventually quiet down) so really that depends on you but if you do that long enough, yes your body will eventually shut down quickly and go to sleep putting you in an instant mind awake body asleep state. Getting to that state when WILD'ing is typically the hard part, but this technique eliminates that...once you've successfully entered SP, ride it out until you're done transitioning, then get up/float up/roll over and do as you wish.

SP is some scary shit! I just want to enter the dream realm when trying this method instead of ending up in SP. Can you work your way during SP and enter a LD.?

You can easily go from SP into an LD, or SP into an OBE

Interesting stuff. In my wild attempts I've often hit upon a point where I physically want to stop, because after a period of lying there quite comfortably, I suddenly get very uncomfortable, and I feel like I need to move and shift position.

Good to know what this is and what to do with it. I've usually just given in, in the past, but knowing I might be real close will hopefully give me the motivation to endure this moment.

      Thanks!

Do you need to have your eyes closed when performing this? You mentioned not to look at the hypnagogics or something? Having your eyes closed and lying in a comfortable way when tired would likely get you asleep, but since you should avoid the sensation of change position, you won't "actually" fall asleep? Your mind would be awake and your body would fall asleep? Is that it?

Hey, I'm new to this forum and I've been reading a lot of posts, this one looked very intriguing..

So I tried your technique, it usually takes me longer than most to get to sleep at night, so I thought this might be the same. I layed for an hour completely still.. only gave up because I was interrupted by a phone call.
Anyway.. during that hour I hardly moved an inch, maybe once which was unavoidable The only responses I got were strong tingly feelings all throughout my body and a lot of twitches in my legs.
I was wondering if you have anymore tips to help induce lucidity? Cheers.

I tried this afternoon. It worked. I got the hypnagogic stuff. Started flying off. Sadly I was distracted and scared out of the trance by constant distrubing alien hallucinations. It certanly works.

As for the phone interrupting you and waking you up i have a solution, get yourself a good pair of noise cancelling headphones, you can get them fairly cheap and you can use them to block out the sound, makes it alot easier, and you can use them for listening to music also!
