When most people try to visualize something they don't actually see it in their mind's eye, they just get the idea of what it's like. Conceptualization is a more proper term for this, but on the brink of sleep these visualizations can become very real looking and this can be used to practice visualization. Visualization can be used in WILD techniques to create a scene and in regular lucid dreams to conjure up objects and people. Using hypnagogic hallucinations to practice will give you more control.Visualizations
Some hallucinations can be controlled, specifically the more complex ones such as objects and scenes. Practicing on these hallucinations is good practice for controlling the dream world in a lucid dream as well as creating a dream for a V-WILD.Controlling Hallucinations
Different hallucinations come at different times during a trance so they can be used to determine how close to a WILD you are. More complex hallucinations happen much deeper into a trance.Knowing How Deep You Are
In early hypnagogic hallucinations, swirling plasma is a common image. These are usually very dull colours, blue and red are common. They may or may not follow a pattern. Some people report a tunneling effect with the colours, other just report swirls. These are usually not recommended to focus on because they are not being built in the same subconscious as your dream.Swirling Colours
When getting up too fast, or getting hit really hard, people tend to report seeing stars. These are also commonly seen in early hypnagogic hallucinations. They will flash from time to time and in various places. There may only be a few or there many be many. Sometimes they simply flash and disappear and other times they will come, swirl around, then vanish.Stars
You may hear whispers as if someone is right next to you. This is usually the most frightening to experience for the first time. This usually happens in early stages of sleep paralysis. Sometimes they are audible messages, other times it may sound like the wind. Words and messages usually happen in later hallucinations.Whispers
Memory footprints are a very common form of hallucination for the WILD techniques. They are images that you suddenly get the memory of seeing, however you don't recall ever actually seeing it. You can remember what the image looked like, even though you never actually saw it. This happens because your dream is forming in your subconscious, and when you get into a deep trance your conscious level is hovering around that threshold. The footprint happened when your consciousness dipped into the subconscious where the dream is forming and then came right back up, bringing the footprint with it.Memory Footprints
There are more rare, but common enough to mention. Occasionally you may see a complete object, usually it is by itself, no scenery, but mostly complete by itself. The object may morph into other objects that your mind associates with it. You may find it very interesting how your mind associates different things together. This usually happens in deep stages of relaxation.Objects
Sometimes you may see entire scenes. They are usually incomplete (if they were complete they would be a dream) but are quickly becoming whole. They happen in the same way as the memory footprint. As your consciousness dips into the subconscious mind it starts picking up the scene that it is building and you may see parts of it fade in and out. This is usually the last stage of hypnagogic hallucinations before you enter a dream.Scenes
