      Our Current Projects

I thought that I'd try and compile a list of the current projects that this team is either working on or have in the conceptual stages. (I thought since I am the leader I'd better start doing some leader-like stuff )

Right now I'm not exacty sure what is still in the works and what is being done so I'll just list what has been mentioned so far and people can comment and maybe we'll cast a vote on what needs to be done first.
      • ~A new more spiffy looking logo/baner at the top
      • ~Holiday themes
      • ~Index spruce up
      • ~Possibly a new community pages logo
      • ~a comic

Soo... What does everyone think we should do first? If I've missed something let me know.

I think we should dive into the banner/header thing first? The only thing that worries me about the "Holiday" themed DVs...is that different people from different countries celebrate alot of different holidays, and I've noticed that there are alot of people at DV from many different countries and it may alienate them abit? I dunno, what do you guys think?

I don't think it would; we could celebrate holidays from other countries also. It is your guys' choice anyways...

Well, maybe when you first get to the themed site, there could be an option like:
"Don't celebrate 'insert holiday of choice'? then click here to browse with normal site! :D"

Here being a link to set the sites skin to normal.

Sounds like an excellent way to show we're not pushy, so I'm in favor

Here's that "holiday not being celebrated" thing. We don't do thanksgiving here.

If people used the flags properly (ie: the flag showed what country they are in), then it would be easy for icedawg to code, say

IF the user's flag is USA, and it's THAT DATE THANKSGIVING TAKES PLACE ON, then TURN ON THANKSGIVING THEME,

IF the user's flag is not USA, but it's THAT DATE THANKSGIVING TAKES PLACE ON, then print a little message saying "We're celebrating thanksgiving or something, but we don't think you celebrate it or whatever. TO see the theme anyway, click here or something."

      (blah blah blah).

yeah i think there should be a crackdown on flag representation-it would be a lot easier to sort things out and stuff.

I wouldnt mind working on some themes either although i would only be able to do buttons and banners and stuff.

we need to start on xmas themes soon, and we can get it up on the official 'put your xmas tree up' day. is it soemthing like 20 days before xmas?

A crackdown on flag representation? wtf? If the flag had any other purpose other than strictly representing something or somewhere that the person wanted it to represent (as it does now) then inforcing restrictions with the flag seems, well pointless. I'm from the US, doesn't mean I have to represent. Alot of people like to fly the gay flag too. Also, just knowing what country you are from does not determine what holidays you celebrate...alot of them are religious, not just national. So that wouldn't work.

What a pain in the ass!

Think how much work that'd mean for ice. He'd have to go through every flag and try and find out if that country celebrated that particular holiday. Thats not even counting the religion of the people you're displaying it to.

You know this reminds me of Google... they always have different sorts of themes going on. Perhaps you could just have all of them... I don't think you need to hide certain holidays from people who don't practice them. People are fairly understanding about that stuff anyway... these days at least. Perhaps you could have an option of turning off "special banners" in which case it could simply place a cookie on the person's computer.

With different holidays and such, I think colours should be chosen with care, so not to disrupt the nice blue theme we've got going on here... I like the colour blue Or... are you suggesting that the entire websites colour scheme changes as well?

I like that idea about redesigning the banner... I quite like it actually. I like the images that appear above the menu in the main site. But the cartoony header up top doesn't really seem to fit.

Oh... I'm Dylan by the way as you can see... haha this is my first post in the Arts Team forum. I design websites/graphics and take photographs!. Actually to be honest... I think I have a photograph I took which might work really well in the banner. I'll toy around with it and come up with a concept first though... (correct me if this isn't how things are done here... do people work together and collaborate, sending various concepts and work from there? or are specific jobs assigned which are stictly followed?)

      Cheers,
      Dylan

yah, i was attempting to mimic corporate sites with that. i think we need to look at redesigning the remainder to make everything fit better and appear a little more professional. probably end up keeping both themes as options (if enough changes are made to warrant that) for those who don't want another change.

Maybe you could tell us more about the kind of thing you want. Stuff like whether you want cursive writing on the logo, or more blocky letters like that forex one? Blue? Shiny?

Lots of messyish threads of discussion carrying on at once here.

      Magical Flag Date Fairy Thing:
As far as the "making holidays only appear for certain people" thing goes, you're basically asking for a miracle then - unless the forum held an comprehensive database on each users religion, country, etc - which is not pratical at all. So I guess that idea won't work. It is a pain in the ass.

We could do some christmas ones though. I mean, Google does christmas ones - on the internet, it's impossible to cater for every single person on the world. I'm sure if they didn't celebrate christmas, they can simply ignore the change. If they get offended, then that's pretty stupid, because it isn't pratical for us to setup accomodation for every single person/religion/country under the sun. I guess.

      Flag Crackdown:
I was only batting ideas around ("if people used the flags properly" does not mean "i want people to use the flag thing properly"). I wouldn't want any flag rules myself - Still, on the subject of that, I don't look at people's flags. They got kinda lost whatever pratical use they had for me when the matrix flag and that swirly lollipop thing were added. Well, it's not like they had any use in the first place (most people didn't define one, or set the correct one).

      Forum Logo:
I did mention this waaaaay back when it was made, but I would've liked the logo without the extra thought bubble blob things - ie just the cloud. I don't think it needs any other real changes though, but whatever the majority wants I guess.

      Favicon:
I'm sure most people of noticed the little favicon that's now on DV - it's the icon that you see on the firefox tab for a Dreamviews page, or in IE, the icon you see for the DV bookmark. It's kinda got this grey crap round it, it could do with removal of that, just to make it a bit nicer - it's easy visible on this monitor, and looks a bit lazy.

Dunno how hard it would be, but why key off of flag at all? IP address is supposed to provide information about location, right?

Of course, you would need a big table of a complex set of rules to calculate holidays from IP address
you must be the change you wish to see in the world...

What about we try to make a universal Oneironaut Logo?
A symbol for an oneironaut. Something that show our views on things.

Since there are so many oneironauts out there that are not connected to DV it could be an open project(in which we dont point at one logo and says: Thats the logo for every oneironaut in the whole world) where one sends in ones contribution, and we here at DV could vote for which we think fit to be the logo of an oneironaut.
