      National Novel Writing Month

Just wondering if I have any fellow Wrimos out there.

      National Novel Writing Month

Essentially the month of November is dedicated by this organization to writing a 50,000 word novel in just thirty days. I've done it for the past three years and am starting to plan out my piece for this year so I can get a good start before I actually have to start writing it. Some of my friends have joined me in the past, but none of them went very far with it, and since I figure you LDers are probably pretty artsy, I thought I'd see if anyone here was doing it.

I narrowly failed in 2008 (got 47k but then couldn't write during last day due to difficulties) and won in 2009. I'm planning to win it this year too, though I for once probably aim a little higher than just 50k words. I haven't planned it yet at all, the idea comes when it comes.

I NaNoWriMoed this last November and won. The book sucks, by the way, but I'll send anyone who wants it a PDF copy upon request. Never went back to edit it, so I'm sure there are some typos, grammar issues, and probably some weirdness with tenses, too, as I waffled for a while on how it should be written. Now I'm working on the plot for this November, and having some trouble getting the pieces of it to slide together.

This seems fun to do. I'll take a shot at trying to write a novel. Now to start an early planning.

I should write my story of the Catgirl and Wolfgirl living in the Meadow.

I bet that'd get a lot of views.

I've been waffling all over the place. The last one was a journal entry format, and as such nearly infinitely expandable. I was thinking sci-fi thriller for awhile, but I'm not so sure now. I might just end up playing video games this November.

I planned to do it last year, but the timing sucked, for various reasons. I'm definitely playing this year, though.

Also looking for other people to keep me on track this year.

I pick up a half-eaten copy of a book by Neil Gaiman, and decide this is all his fault.

I'd be glad to be the one to keep you on track. I finally won last year after a grueling November, but I'm hoping that since I'm starting earlier with planning and everything this year then the actual writing will go more smoothly.

I didn't bother last year (no ideas, just started writing), but Im definitely doing it this year.
I don't usually think, therefore I mostly am not.

Same here, I wanted to participate last year, but I moved out of the house, new city, got into college, etc. Simply didn't have the time nor (more important) focus. This year I'll definitely be playing, yes. Motivating and keeping each other on track seems like a good idea

How are all of you guys planning ahead? Writing a basic plot outline? Reading other books? I'm curious!

My novel is obviously going to be about lucid dreaming!

Nah, I am just kidding. Maybe.

I will somehow incorporate it into a story.

I think I may write about a man who suffers from insomnia (I have experience. I go crazy and start throwing things around if I cannot fall asleep with in 10 minutes. Sometimes, things gotten really bad. )

Mine is about a supervillain, but I'll try to go deep into issues of identity and morality and st.

Sounds awesome. I'm starting on the planning stuff earlier this year, as well. I haven't decided which plot I'm going with yet, though.

Wow, someone's on the WriMo bus early! I started the NNWM threads the last two years, but not until September or October.... Nonetheless, I have been thinking about it

2008 - Win; 2009 - Loss (the book just didn't want to be written)

This year, I'm going to try and write a comedy noir, kind of the Sam Spade tone only hopefully bizarrely funny. Trying to decide if I want a plot or if I'll just start typing. Hopefully it doesn't turn into a chapter of dadism

I learned about this contest November of last year, when it was far too late to begin a piece with any hopes of finishing.

This year, things are going to be different. I'm fairly stoked, even if I haven't yet decided on the story I want to tell.

Did it 2 years in a row. Lost both times. The story stayed the same both times. But a story revamp will be done this year!!!

I don't really plan ahead that much. All the true planning I do is thinking about it. Most of the time, whatever I think is what gets written. Besides, rewrites come later anyways. No need to worry about it during November. XD

I agree. I have a basic idea and a couple characters in my head, but no plot yet. I'll just let that develop as I have the characters interact.

I won it last year but didn't actually get to finish my novel. It sucked anyway so I am rewriting it this year and tweaking it a bit. So much fun though! And very rewarding at the end.

I tried two years ago, but ran into some trouble at 30K and was unable to complete it I really liked the idea for my story though, so I'm planning on rewritting it sometime. Definitely a contest worth putting in the effort for Can get a lot out of this.
