that bitchin leather fanny pack is gay
This is what I get from it. I'm likely wrong though, I tend to interpret this type of thing differently from most people - found that out in English class.
I take it that the man in the picture wasn't born American. He is some kind of Asian. But he's been Americanised (flag on shirt, hat, possibly the fact that he's a bit overweight). In fact, I didn't even realise he wasn't Caucasion until looking at the painting for a couple minutes.
It seems on some level, he does feel pride in his new American identity. Why else would he own the shirt?
But now he's elderly and his delusions have been shaken. His jacket is outdated, as is his Camera (note that it's past 2009 in the painting). This gives me the impression that he's sort of been cast aside after being brainwashed into pointless patriotism. And he's starting to realise it and is saddened by it, which is apparent from the thoughtful sad glance to the side.
He seems to be some sort of tourist. I'm guessing he's been living in America throughout his life and is now visiting the place he was born, and feeling sadness and loss.
So, as a whole, it seems to me that the painting expresses the injustice of the brainwashing of society, consumerism, taking away people's heritages, etc.
Certainly an interesting perspective.
I think his camera looks stylistically different and therefore slightly out of place.
Alexa rules :D Nice illusion, hard to believe. I'm not revealing the whole thing, though, not my thread. :)
?
??
It's not a painting.
Okay, so it's a photograph that's been edited, painted over it looks like.
Why is that supposed to matter? Even plain photographs can be considered art.
Start making sense. What am I missing?
It's a guy who has painted himself (his own body). No post processing was involved. He walks around and looks like that.
Yeah, Marvo beat me to it. I've seen a bunch of these, and they're awesome. It's actually a real person, with paint all over his face and body/clothes.
I've also seen this stuff before. I was shocked when I first found out they were real people. It's quite a cool optical illusion.
I didn't realise when I saw the first pic in this thread though. You win this round, Xei.
Actually it's not the guy who painted himself, it's a work of this artist: ALEXA MEADE \\ ABOUT
and she's awesome. :)
That's incredible, wasn't til the very last posts of this thread that I actually understood what was going on. Should have guessed by the way everyone was looking at him on the train/bus.
