she turned around and looked at me
and smiled
she put her finger to her lips

"shhhh."

she held it up and i saw the little doll broken into pieces. she broke my little doll into four pieces, and i don't think she cared. but then each piece changed into something else entirely, a tiny bicycle, and three other things, three other little things that i couldn't see. the cat came and took one away. the other two are now lost. the two that are lost are the times when people say and do things that they don't really mean. one is, the other is actually the things people mean but can't think of.
the mirror, in the vanity, will show you your reflection, and if you look at it long enough you might actually see yourself
