A novel about the power of dreams

I'm a new writer, up and coming, and my most recent project was to write a novel. Yes, of course it does have to do with what we talk about on this site, but I don't want to spoil anything more than that!

However, I will also say that I specifically used my dreams to give me inspiration and ideas for writing this book. Very intentionally.

Island is an adventure novel about a man who washes ashore on - what else? - an island. He does not know who he is or how he came to be on the enigmatic island. Exploring it for a while, he soon finds that the native creatures are bizarre and realizes that he must learn the truth about the island if he is to ever escape.

(If you are interested, check out the links in my signature.)

I keep a dream journal and dreams have long interested me. My dreams inform my writing whether or not the plot has anything to do with dreams. If you do read my novel, please let me know what you thought! (And if you have any ideas (plots, etc.) of fictional works you would like to see involving dreams, please let me know!)

      Congratulations Mr. Milligan!

I too, am an aspiring author. Much like yourself, the book I am working on is inspired by the wonderful world of Dreams and the possibilities that lie beyond. I am excited to see that you have gone the ebook route, which is something I'm seriously considering once I have enough to publish. I've been working steadily on it for the past Six months and I feel like I've made considerable progress. I see that you published quite recently too, which makes this even more exciting. I would like to ask you more questions about the process you went through to publish, but I will leave that for a pm. Once again, congratulations on your accomplishment.

Hey, thanks! Self-publishing is a great thing to have these days. Write about what you love and you can take your story to those who want to read it. It gives you greater control of what you want to write while giving yourself a way to get your work out there.

I would like to know more about the process you went through to get it into ebook format and have it available on amazon. I've looked into it a little, but I've never heard from someone who has actually done it. You can private message this if you like.

Here's Amazon's guide on how to build your book and format it. Main thing to watch out for I would say is page breaks. Do those wrong and it throws everything off!

Just now (about 11 am Friday 18-Jan) there was a knock on my door. I opened it and a man have me a parcel. I thanked the postman then got a knife to open the parcel trying to remember what I had orded that was book sized.

I was Island by David Milligan

I flipped through it and then read the first page. I am hooked. I just thought I would let you know straight away. The reciept tells me that I ordered you book on 1-1-2012.

I love what you have done on page one. You make it possible for me to empty my mind and dream this dream with you.

That's cool. Hey citizen, what's your sale count at right now? And where did the link for your book go?

Try to imagine a life without timekeeping. You probably can’t. You know the month, the year, the day of the week; you have a schedule, a calendar... Yet all around you, timekeeping is ignored. Birds are not late. A dog does not check its watch. Deer do not fret over passing birthdays. Man alone measures time. Man alone chimes the hour. And, because of this, man alone suffers a paralyzing fear that no other creature endures.
A fear of time running out.

      Debrajane,

Thank you! I am glad you like it. To know that my work is liked makes me feel very good and gives me encouragement about a future in writing! Maybe you will have an actual dream that is like the setting of the book? I have even had an idea about a spiritual sequel of sorts because now I have experience developing that kind of setting.

      PlanesWalker and Signet,

My signature was removed by the moderators for being "spam." I would disagree that a novel about dreams is spam on a forum about dreams, but I guess this place is not supportive of every dream out there. So I am going to withdraw from the forum because I think it is unreasonable. But I say follow your dreams anyway, even though there are going to be some dead ends.

That is exactly what I bought your $4.50c bood titled Island for.

I have read page one five times now. You might think that silly but I want to be (posses) the character on page one. You give plenty of opportunity for that on page one. I want to sink into revery (waking dream) over and over till the intention reaches Our Dreaming Mind and I begin to dream your book.

thank you, CitizenOfZeal, for the opportunity.

infants want to here the same story over and over and over. Thats because infants want to truely live the story (on the inside). Tjat's what I want to do with your story "Island".
