I can’t believe it.
How could times fly so fast.
I’m sure it just start only a few days ago.
It must be a dream.
A dream.
It’s a dream where you try to force yourself awake, a nightmare.
“Rizki, what are you thinking about? Hurry up and finish your breakfast or you will be late. I’m sure you don’t want to be late for your first day at school, right?”
“Yes, Mom. And it’s not really the first day since it’s already my second year.” I said it while munching my breakfast as fast as I can.
“Yeah, whatever. Hurry up or you will be late.”
Name: Rizki Purnama
Age: 16 years old (12-April-1998)
Born in Medan, Indonesia. An average students. His physique is quite above the average even though his face is not what you really call handsome. In term of academic as a student he is neither bad or good. He have a narcissistic personality that he denied by saying it’s not narcissistic but just a confident. That’s why he said he can easily be one of the top student without 'really trying' if he wanted to but since he feel bad for the other students that need to work hard and study hard to be one of the top students he decided not to ‘really trying’.
Huh, I can’t believe the holiday already ended and I need to go back to school again. It’s not I hate being in school but I haven’t had enough of the holiday. Why can’t they make the holiday one week longer. But saying that won’t change anything I need forget about the past and enjoy the present like a famous quote that I read on the internet, even though I’m not sure I can enjoy anything at school.
I’m a student at Pertiwi High School which is located not far from my house. It’s not a prestigious school but also not bad one, I think it’s more on the good side. It’s my second year there. Nothing really has changed since the last time I walk to the school. Of course nothing changed, what can you expect to change by two weeks. Hm. Maybe some things could, but nothing changed here.
Finally, I arrived at my one-and-only school, obviously. I decided to take a look at the announcement board to check which class I’m in.
“Rizki… Rizki… Rizki… Ah! Found it”
“11 IPS 1”
Well, that’s something I didn’t expect. By the way I’m sure most of you didn’t know what that ‘IPS’ mean for, right? Well, let me explain it then. In Indonesia starting from the second grade of high school the class will divided into two major, science which we call ‘IPA’ and social science which we call ‘IPS’. To determine which major a student will be taking there are two factor that will be considered by the school. First, the students grade on each subject that related to each major and the second factor is which major the student choose. It’s asked when their life as tenth grade student almost over.
And that’s also the reason why I said it’s something I didn’t expect. I’m sure I choose IPA when filling the form they give to me when I’m still at tenth grade and I’m also sure that my average grade of IPA subjects is quite high.
Well, let’s just head to the class after all I already promised both of my childhood friend, Cahya and Bima to choose IPS, even though I kinda betrayed them by choosing IPA but at least I can keep my promise which is nice.
I walk along the hallway while scanning to find my new class.
After some walking I found my class. It’s quite far from the entrance but the class location is quite good. It’s close both to the canteen and toilet. And the best part is it’s quite far from the teacher office. I’m sure it need at least 5 minute to walk here from the teacher office. That mean we need to study 5 minute less from the normal time.
As I walk into the class that’s still quite since only few people already arrive. One of them is Cahya my childhood friend that I make promise with. I can’t believe I’m at the same class as her, even though we are childhood friend and always attending the same school we rarely be in the same class.
“Morning, Rizki” Cahya greet me with that smile of her that never really change since I first knew her.
Name: Cahya Putri
Age: 16 (28-August-1998)
Born in Medan, Indonesia. One of Rizki childhood friend. Have a black long hair and black eyes like most of Indonesian. For a woman she can be considered tall. Her bright personality make it easy for her to make friend. She is also quite popular amongst the guys since she look likes an innocent character from a manga. In term of academic she is considered above the average, unlike Rizki her academic ability can be proven by her high score on most of subject.
“Oh, Morning”
I decided to seat on the third row near the window, no special reason or maybe because of the ancient rule ‘a main character of a story need to sit near the window’.
Suddenly, Cahya bring her bag and come closer to me.
“Okay, I will seat here” she said that while putting her bag at the seat infront of me.
“Hm. Why did you move here? As far as I remember when you greet me before you seat at the other side of class?”
“Can’t I sit here?” She ask this while tilting her head and staring at me.
“I don’t mean it like that. I thought you want to sit with your friend?” I answered while trying not to make her mad or else…
“Of course! That’s why I choose the seat in front of you.” She said that while giving her smile. What a cheerful girl. And thanks god she didn’t even seem mad at me.
“Ah.. Right.. We are friend..”
Suddenly I heard a bag dropped at the seat beside me. And a mysterious guy start to walk to my seat.
“Yo, Rizki. How are you?” said the mysterious guy who just came.
“Eh… Who are you?”
“What? How could you forget me? I’m Bima. Your bestfriend since we were only child that can enjoy the day without worrying about any homework.”
Name: Bima Setiawan
Age: 16 (13-January-1998)
Born in Medan, Indonesia. Another childhood friend of Rizki. His body and face can be considered above average with his messy hair but he isn’t really popular amongs the girls. Unlike Cahya who is good at almost every subject, Bima on the opposite is bad at almost every subject. He like to joke around even when the class is on session which make him popular amongst the teacher. Obviously he is popular not because he is smart but because of his behavior during class.
“Ah.. Right… I remember I have a friend called Bima. I’m sure though it’s one of the memories I want to forget.”
“Hahaha, you are funny as usual. But don’t you think you need a new joke? You always repeat that same joke everytime we meet after a holiday.”
“I’m not even joking.”
Like that our not-so-sweet reunion ended. This meeting of the three of us also means that we will be in the same class for the next two years since the class won’t get shuffled when we become third grade. Which is both fortunate and unfortunate event at the same time, for me.
Just like a normal student that meet for the first time after holiday we talked about the classic topic ‘where did you go on your holiday’ and other normal holiday-related topic. Until suddenly the door open and a teacher walk in. Which followed by all the students walking to their seat.
“Morning, class”
“Morning, ma’am”
“My name Dewi Rosiana. I teach world history. And from now I will be your homeroom teacher. Since it’s our first meeting you don’t need to worry about study because I will only introduce about what we will be studying this semester.”
The whole class responded with cheer.
After the teacher leaves I take out my phone and plug in my earphone to listen music and reading something on the internet that I already bookmarked on the browser yesterday.
Not too long until they start talking to me, again.
“So, where did you go on holiday Rizki?” I know this voice, a familiar girl’s voice. And I’m sure this question is directed to me. Well, since I’m busy right now I better just pretend to didn’t heard that.
“Hey! Are you listening to me?” I keep pretending until…
“Don’t pretend to didn’t hear me! I know you can hear me!” As I heard this I feel something being pulled from my ear.
“You can hear me, right?” That girls said this while holding to my earphone and this time I know she will be mad at me.
“Eh… What do you mean?”
“Stop pretending I know you can hear me! Do you think I will be fooled by that trick again?”
“What are you looking at by the way?” Bima join the conversation while trying to see my phone’s screen.
“Porn.“ I said that while trying to hide my phone but not so fast until Cahya get her hand on it.
“Oh, Cahya so you also like this kind of stuff too?” I said that without realizing the price I need to pay later.
“Huh? Porn? Here Bima take it…” She looks flustered and her face getting red.
“Here let me see it…. What is this… Jeez, it’s not even a porn. You got my hopes high up and slam it down to the floor, dude.”
“Bima, you pervert!” Cahya said it while punching Bima’s shoulder. This why you shouldn’t make a girl angry especially a girl like
her. But, thankfully I’m spared from her wrath. Or at least that’s what I’m thinking, and what I’m hoping for. She start to look at me with her face still red and continue with the same punch she throw at Bima before, but this time I’m the one at the receiving end.
“Ah!” I shout as I feel the sensation. Thankfully I still can control my mouth to not say a curse word. If I can’t control it I’m sure I will feel that same sensation again.
“Now, you two get on your knees and apologize!”
“Yes, ma’am. We are sorry and won’t do it again.” I and Bima obediently follow her instruction because we already know the consequences if we didn’t this time.
“What is this stuff by the way? Lucid dreaming?” Bima ask this question as we standing up.
“Here give me my phone. I’m sure you won’t understand even if you try to read it.”
“Lucid dreaming? I think I heard about it somewhere before…” Cahya said it while trying to remember something. Thankfully she didn't seems mad and has start to calm down.
“Ah, Right! I read it once on the internet! It’s just like what it says ‘Lucid Dream’ a dream that feels lucid.”
“Eh… So what do you mean exactly by lucid?” Bima ask this question and I’m sure Cahya explanation is to ‘advanced’ for someone like him to understand.
“Basically it’s a dream where you know it’s a dream and have a control over it.” I tried to explain it again in a more simple way so someone like him can understand.
“So why did you read it?” Cahya ask this while staring at me.
“Isn’t it obvious? It’s because I want to try it. Doesn’t it sounds fun controlling your dream and doing something not even possible in the real life?”
“Like what?” Bima also starting to asking me question.
“Many things. Flying. Fighting zombies. Transforming into wolf. And many other cool things.”
“How about having sex?” Bima ask this with excitement in his eyes.
“Of course!” I unknowingly answer him, also with an excited tone.
Suddenly I feel really a bad vibe.
And it feel somehow familiar.
Oh.
Wait.
Sh*t.
I’m doomed.
“YOU PERVERTS!” I feel a familiar sensation at my stomach as I heard this.
This time we are the one automatically get on our knees and beg for forgiveness, or else we will suffer more.
After few minutes she look like she already calm down and continue asking me like nothing has happened.
“But, don’t they said it’s hard to practice lucid dreams? I read that there are some peoples who need few months to have their first lucid dream. And as your childhood I don’t think you are the type who can stick to something for that long.” She sure know a lot about this lucid dream things, and about me.
“No. This time I’m sure I can do it.” I said it confidently even though I’m also not sure if I can really stick along for a few months if I don’t succeed.
Suddenly the bell rang and the door open. This time a male teacher walks in. I know him he was also my teacher at tenth grade and he is famous for being a ‘killer’ teacher. The herbivore students hurriedly dashing to their seats after sensing the danger as the predator enter the classroom. The predator stop after his first step into the classroom and scanning over the classroom for his prey. After a few minute he finally start walking to the teacher seat.
“Morning, class.”
“Morning, sir.”
“My name is Ahmad Zairudin. I will be your geography teacher for this year. Okay enough with the introduction. Now for the first lesson we will study about…”
“Sir, excuse me.”
“What is it?”
“Since it’s our first meeting after the holiday and our brain haven’t warmed up how about if we just do the introduction and start the studying at the next meeting?” This voice. It’s Bima’s. It’s either he is brave or stupid for asking this question to a teacher known for being killer. Uh, Maybe he is more to the stupid side.
“What do you mean? If you don’t want to study get out of this class!”
I try to hold my laughter as the teacher start to scold Bima. But I don’t think I did a good job at that.
“You too, if you want to laugh or joking around get out of my class.” Sh*t. I’m caught. This because of that stupid Bima.
Congratulation to Bima for being the first victim of the predator. And congratulation to myself for being the second victim.
Like that the first lesson officially start and obviously me and Bima are not participating at that as we are standing in front of the class with the traditional posture hands-up-while-raising-one-leg.
What a great way to start a semester.
