      Inception

So, I think all of us lucid dreamers have probably seen Inception. I think a couple of things about it are extremely good, and other things about it are very much missing, specifically "in dreams" part of it.

A few things that I think need to be said about this little project of mine. I am keeping the rules and the plot of the movie, just changing a lot of the filler stuff. If you have any ideas that you think would be fun to see in it, let me know. I am not extremely great at writing, but I will get better at that as well, feel free to critique that as well. I will be throwing in all sorts of normal dreams, as well as a long section on dream control. A few rules need to be bent in the dream world, but I like the overall idea.

Some rules that will need to be followed in order for this whole thing to make any sense.
      1) Architect
This is the person that creates the dream world. Taking them to pre-built dream places that they have created.
      2) Projections
I think this is something that a lot of people misunderstood in the movie, the projections do not attack the dreamer. They attack the intruder. This is why Cobb was able to go into a completely preset environment every night, from memory, without all the projections attacking him. The architect is the one that they are after, since they know that it isn't the right dream.
      3) Dying
Dying in other people's dreams makes you wake up. Tada, doesn't have to hurt your schema at all, now does it?
      4) Dream within a dream/time dilation
Same rules as apply, because each layer they go into a different person's mind with the dream, so it makes sense that the architect and all of that would change too. Time dilation I think makes sense as a standard for the movie and I will be using the same table of time dilation per level.
      5) Limbo
I am pretty much doing as much research on this as possible, to make sure that the "LEVEL 4 and LIMBO" idea is going to make perfect sense in the version I am making.
      6) A couple of dream powers will have to be limited, like teleporting and the like.
      7) I am pretty sure that the only person that can change dream things in a dream, is the dreamer.
So I think that what I am missing here is that small things can be changed by all the people. After rewatching (again) I see that Eames is showing dream control all the time even though he isn't the dreamer until deep down. I think that things can be easily manipulated, but things like environment, are at the mercy of the architect.

So when you say "DCs don't attack you just because you know you are dreaming", that is actually true in the movie too. Remember, Ariadne asks "What, they are going to attack us?" "No... just you."

I think that I am going to be going dream sequence by sequence. I will have to rewrite some of the waking life and make it more about "Lucid Dreaming" and "shared dreaming". I have a bunch of ideas on how to change and add things, but let me hear all of your ideas.

So many cool things left out of the movie.

He's re-writing the movie to be more accurate in it's depiction of Lucid Dreaming, if I read right.

Well if its going to be realistic it should have dialogue like this in the waking part:

Billy texting Joe "Danm it I was just in a dream where I got my hand stuck in the toaster and I was being like electrocuted and burned and stuff"

Joe texting back "DUDE!!! I totaly dreamed yesterday that I was walking thru the Elysian Fields surrounded by calmness and peacefulness and seeing all my loved ones as I walked thru fields of tall wheat.... WE TOTALLY HAD A SHARED DREAM!!!!"

      Billy "WTF?"

Joe "DUDE bread is made from wheat and people put bread in toasters..."

Billy "COOL MY FIRST SHARED DREAM, and there I was thinking having my hand burned off was lame"

Dreams are created by your mind, but other people can manipulate your mind to some extent, in turn manipulating your dreams.

For example, if there was somebody who was dreaming and somebody else who was awake that knew that, that person who was awake could manipulate the dream of the dreamer by manipulating the environment around them. This would result in a manipulation of the dreamers dream, as dreams can change in real time with changes to the environment around them. If the person who was awake brought a heater next to the dreamer and turned on some Arabic music, the dream would likely abruptly reflect those changes with a desert scene of some sort.

OP updated. Won't be doing that a lot will have to talk to DGs when I want it done next Probably when I have a few chapters down.

      7) I am pretty sure that the only person that can change dream things in a dream, is the dreamer.

Also, Silverdreams is right, or else this would be in "lucid experiences" or something like that, instead. This is in "artists corner". This is a Fanfic really.

Another thing is that the environment of the dreamer is going to have to change the environment of the dream.

I really like the idea. What I would add is that a key component of the plot -- and dreams in general -- is that you need to need to know the host. Yes, the architect shapes the dream and all the participants may have some degree of control on their own. But everyone needs to work within the idioms of the host. In the movie, they are careful to investigate their target and uncover all his personal drama with his father and the legacy of the corporation. That personal dossier is the seed from which they hatch the heist-plot.

So, it's part detective story and part heist story. And the twists in the plot are when unexpected things happen. After all, you can't know everything about a person. Still, a clever inception-artist will have an array of tools to deal with the unexpected, and you see that in the movie. They rely on tropes and confidence tricks to smooth over the unexpected parts. This leverages things that are both personal and universal to the dreamer: archetypes and idioms.
I am sure about illusion. I am not so sure about reality.

Thanks for the advice sisyphus. I like that idea quite a bit. It is something that was a major part in the movie that I kind of glossed over in my watchings. Or at least didn't connect the dots.

I forgot to post this as well
Magical serum and connector box that connects everyone into a dream is going to be a must. If you guys are wondering after watching the show or reading this how it works, I can tell you in the spoiler tag below.
Spoiler for hey! look! listen! :

Also, I have the script from the movie (google... I love you) and it actually clears up a few things that people argue about online. The ending is not one of them, in fact, I find it funny that no one mentions what happens at the end credits in their arguments. I suggest you just watch to the end if you haven't before, it isn't something incredibly amazing, but it really is more like an "easter egg" and actually isn't a scene, so don't get your hopes up and go retention the movie or anything. Also, what lucid dreamer doesn't own this movie? Jk.

Tomorrow starts the work week and so I will try to begin with chapter one tomorrow and have it done before the end of the week. Don't hold me to that. I am gonna put a lot into this, but don't expect perfection!!! I am a so-so writer and I would rather get this thing out quickly and make some mistakes than write 2 perfect chapters and burn out. So no tedious planning or anything like that (i am ENFP, so I don't wanna do that). I write in full sentences and use correct grammar most of the time, so it shouldn't be pulling teeth trying to get through it. I won't be using forum speech or anything. That being said, if someone is a writer and wants to edit it up and post it in another thread, I would love to see that as well.

It is late and I am on some pain meds, so I am gonna sign off. Hahaha.

I read about this yesterday and apart from instantly liking the idea, I was also inspired to rewatch the movie! After doing so, I'm even more interested in the results of this. Good luck!

Here is the prologue, I have written the first chapter and just need to edit it a bit. The prologue doesn't really deviate from the beginning of the movie, in fact, the first chapter changes some definition and makes the first dreams more dreamlike. Let me know what you think. In order to keep the same plot, the beginning can't change too much.

      Spoiler for Prologue:

That's pretty good (and accurate)! I'm not really great at judging exactly how good though, other people might be more helpful at that. If anything, I think it would be nice if you'd carry the descriptiveness of the first paragraph to the second as well. Describe how Cobb eats (almost attacking the bowl of oatmeal), describe the crackling and wavering voice of the old man, describe the look on his face when he first sees the top and the fascination when he examines it.

I can't really think of anything else to add, good job!

Thanks EddieDean! I tried to go back through chapter 1 and add a bunch of details. Let's see what you guys think. Remember, not gonna deviate much at the start, but will start making more sense later on. You should recognize some of my favorite dream controls in here.

      Spoiler for Chapter 1:

That was a nice read! I usually read Stephen King so I'm used to a little more descriptive writing, but your style is consistent and in my opinion has a nice flow. Also, I finally completely understand where you want to be going with this, I like it!
