Johnny

By Axis

A quiet city, wallowing in it own self hatred. The simplicity of it was inconceivable. In this city lived a boy, a boy named Johnny. Some people called him a Goth, some a Satanist. Johnny was just a boy, he was not religious, nor a Goth. He has no siblings, he was an only child. He was just struggling to live in this place he called home. Earlier in the year Johnny’s mother and father passed in a car accident. Nothing has affected him more than the day he came home from the hospital to an empty house. The sound of barrenness cut away at his mind, piece by piece.

Johnny was walking home from school. Having had a tolerable day, he just wanted to go home and talk to his pen pal. Julia of Holland, his only friend. The only person who does not turn their nose at him. Simple ways of killing a person inside, this was the manner of the people of Johnny’s home town.

Julia had been talking to Johnny since before the accident, before Johnny has become hollow. They had become close friends and knew each other well. Johnny would stay up almost all night to talk to Julia, who was on the other side of the globe.

Johnny was getting ready to sit and converse with Julia, when he noticed a man was standing at the front door. Johnny’s door bell had been broken for months, he never thought of fixing it, as he did not know anyone he wished to talk to. He walked to the door and struggled to turn the handle, his hands greasy from the chips he was previously eating. Slowly opening the door, the expression of the man standing on the front porch changed from a smile to a type of fake smile.

“Hello Sir, can I interest you in a dietary supplement called Full Vitamin…”

Johnny slammed the door in the man’s face cutting him off, not speaking a word. He watched as the man stormed down the yard path. Quickly walking to his computer he checked if Julia was online or had sent him an e-mail.

Nothing. She was not on nor had she sent an e-mail.

“Its ok, I’ll just wait a while” thought Johnny.

Johnny waited for three and a half hours, it was getting dark and he had homework due the next day. Logging off the computer he was confused, what happened to Julia? Why was she not online?

“Its ok, I’ll go on later, she’ll be on later” Thought Johnny.

Johnny completed his homework and had a small meal. One last check of the computer showed that Julia had not been online at all nor had she sent him an e-mail.

Johnny left it for a day and went to school the next day.

Coming home after school he ran for the computer and checked again, no Julia, she was gone.

A week passed and Julia failed to send him an e-mail. Two weeks, a month… three. Johnny was scared, where was she?

A year passed, it is now today. Johnny is still waiting for Julia to send him an e-mail, but, as for Julia?

No one knows.
