      A Poem: The Beast Upright

This is a poem I wrote some time ago.

      THE BEAST UPRIGHT

      When I was younger,
      Running with child-like pace,
      Stick in hand
Scraping the fence along the way,
Harsh tones of metal on wood
      Grating my ears,
      I began to realise
      All is not what it
      Seems to be.

      In my dreams,
      Piercing mist and fog,
      Were bogeymen,
      Faces as scarred
      As their minds were dark.
      Black figures,
      Slow and dying,
      Eyes grey with a
      Twitching pain.

      And now as I look
At the last apple in the bowl,
      Scarred skin,
      Yellow with age,
      Covering bruised flesh.
      I know that the rot
      Is flowing,

      And like the apple,
      This Earth,
      Whose fruits it bore
      Rot its skin.
      And among them,
      The bogeymen live,
      Feeding on the rot,
      Preying on the weak.

      And like all before us,
We are just a dying breed,
      Awaiting renewal.
      We,
      The beast upright,
      Are a warring herd
      Of animals,
      Against a world
      Where time is monotony.

I have read both of Tiktok & The Beast Upright and I think they are both intrigueing. I have noticed a lot of poems which revolve around time. It seems to be a precious comededy in the artists corner of poems and writings
The Beast upright. Sad in the fact that when we are born we feel so in control. The older we get we begin to realize that we are just a small part in the whole skeem of things. And everything turns to dust.
      Very well done!

      BRAVO! I loved it!
I respect and also write poems that are and complex and often confussing to it's audience, but it's nice to read one that clearly delivers the artist's thoughts and meaning.
Ah what peace we found in our childhood ignorance! This is why we must shelter our children for at least a season as they grow. Nothing compares to the bliss of innocence.

I think innocence is the lesser bliss of the two, the greatest one being ignorance. That is why I rarely post on the philosophy forum.

      Thanks for the comment.

You might say that ignorance breeds innocence at least when it comes to keeping a child's mind pure. I've noticed that mentally challenged people are often the happiest bunch around.

I liked the Poem, alot. It put an image in my mind that's quite intriging (sp?) It seems to speak of a truth in another way. I dunno, just the way I see it...

      Are we dreaming?
