I would like to post my music up on the web and on DV but I am wondering if anyone knows how I am to copyright it for free online and if there are any good hosting programmes preferably ones that copyright as well?

You own the copyright in it 'before the ink's dry on the paper', as long as it's original . Enforcement is another issue though... I don't know anything about hosting programmes sorry, but rest assured you own the copyright, it arises automatically.

I highly doubt copyright will be something you need to consider.
First of all, if your music does get ripped somehow, you can't enforce anything without tons of expensive lawyers and stuff. Besides that, copyright enforcement in general costs a lot of money.

Any type of original art or writing existing in "tangible form" has copyright protection, and you can sue the bejesus out of anybody who steals your stuff. If you can easily prove that your stuff was stolen, there are plaintiff's attorneys who will take your case and only charge a fee if they win, which they obviously believe they will if they take your case. The reason people get official copyright registration from the government is that it provides a solid means of proving that your work existed in tangible form the moment it was registered with the copyright office. The last I checked, copyright registration was $20. Look up "copyright office" on Google.com, and they will have short forms you can fill out and mail in. The moment they recieve it, it is registered internationally.
How do you know you are not dreaming right now?

you can use myspace of course and just dont allow people to download it or you can use sony's acidplanet which allows you to host an unlimited amount of songs for free and you can block downloading as well. If you want to see an example take a look at my signature...
