      Question

I've seen alot of videos, and song links, from numerous people. I can obviously see there are some guitarists.

Now, I used to be into the metal 'scene'. Like, Megadeth, Nile, ect. I've 'mellowed out' to say, and I'm into more acoustic rock. Stuff like Motion city soundtrack - When you're around stuff, then anything else. Does EVERYONE here play Metal, or Rock?

      Just my little rant.

      Nope.

I play acoustic... folk, jazz, rock, classical, finger-style. I own one solid body, but only use it as a practice guitar so I'm not bugging those around me. (It's a Steinberger.) My basses are solids though.

I've got my Taylor 314CE right here in my lap.

Ah! Glad I'm not alone. So there are two people who mostly play acoustic stuff. But haven't you noticed most people will either play metal, rock of some sort, or new era pop punk?

Around here, that does seem to be the case. Maybe lucid dreaming just draws those sorts of personalities?

FWIW, I'm in a rock band, though it is with people the same age as me. We were "wannabes" when the big art rock bands were huge - Zep, Floyd, Yes, etc.

I play about 50/50 bass and acoustic guitar with them. (The keyboardist does bass usually when I don't, and very occasionally the lead guitarist - who is also an AWESOME bass player.)

Virtually all of the songs I've written in the past five or ten years have been acoustic-guitar based.

I think you may have heard the ONE exception to that, if I remember right. Didn't I send you a link to one of my unpublished songs?

That's pretty cool. I'm just tired of raging, headbanging, distorted metal. When I'm playing that I feel as if I can only get so far. I feel trapped, to say.

I'm taping a quick demo on my minidisc here... maybe if it isn't too embarrassing, I'll send it to ya.

Sweet. Sounds pretty cool. Now I'll have an excuse to turn away from the hockey highlights.

I play nylon-string acoustic guitar ( AKA classic guitar ). This is the intrument that I love best.
      I play folkish indie stuff.

      Well, that's three of us!

I love my classical - I have an old Swiss-made Goya. If you ever seen "The Sound Of Music," that guitar they use in most of that is identical to mine. It's beat up, but it still sounds delicious.

I used to play classical (+ lots of jazz stuff) for a while mostly because i think it is better to learn on a non-electric and get better that way, but for the last 1.5 or so years i've been playing electric because I like the songs that are more playable on an electric better. I don't really play metal though.

Well, looks like PJ and I aren't alone! Yay!

Technically, you can play aything on an acoustic. Making it sound good is a different story. But there are songs that you can play on an acoustic, that sound good. Some Foo Fighters for instance.

Check out any of the "unplugged" stuff that M-TV was doing years ago.

The Nirvana one remains one of my all time favorites.

Yeah, that would be cool. Thing is, ever since one of my family members tried to 'clean up' the computer, they disabled stuff. Most video's don't work on this computer.

I do not see that one being outdone anytime soon.

Has Niel young done an unplugged?

I stared with playing electric. My friend has let me barrow his acoustic guitar. That is tough on the fingers
And the frets are further apart.

Yeah... you get fast and accurate on an acoustic and you can WAIL on an electric!

I've never really played my electric, always stick to my accoustic, with heavy strings for when I rock out.

I don't like to confine myself to a genre. If I want to play metal, I play my electric, if I want to play slow melodic music, I'll play my acoustic. The thing is, there's so many different styles, that I like to play them all - I'm musically unbiased, you could say.

So yes, to answer your question, I play the acoustic (but not only the acoustic ).

I play acoustic-- I inherited an old Penco (a brand that made, I think, knock-offs of Gibson knock-offs) from my mom. I mostly use it to back up Irish traditional tunes and to attempt the occasional indie rock song. I was sorely tempted to get an electric last year, but the urge was fleeting.

Yeah, I'm one of those... here's my baby:

She's a K Yairi from '83. My buddy who plays in the CGQ (Canadian Guitar Quartet) told me it's "actually a pretty nice guitar" which, coming from him, means a lot to me. I must admit I don't pick her up as much as I should, too busy noodling with the killswitch on my Yamaha (thanksalot Buckethead!&#33):

Also, for you acousticaholics, check out Buckethead's Electric Tears, bring a tear t'yer eye it will. Make ya's all moist and stuff. Colma is smokin' too (some complain of too much high hat... not f'in ME&#33 here's "For Mom" (like Randy Rhoads' "Dee") at YouTube... enjoy!

      Dream on!
      smooches,

Woah.. You lost me after you said it'll bring a tear to my eye.

By the way, Nice guitars. That's right Pj! You DID send me that one song. Still haven't let anyone else listen to it, either.

It's not that I don't want anybody else to hear it - I just can't let the file get out "in the wild." You may play it for whoever you wish... just don't share the file. It is my song and singing, but it isn't my production, and the guy who did the production has a lot invested in it.

I do have 2 acoustic guitars and 2 electrics. I love to play both, rock and harder stuff and acoustic songs.

I didn't post it because I wasn't happy with the vocal level - it was way low. I just picked up a minidisc and made my own binaural mic for it. I'm learning about how to get good recordings with it still. It's a recent song, and I've not had time to do a proper demo of it yet. It'll get another chance soon. I'm hoping that this minidisc will allow me to do demos a lot quicker - especially when the song is on the simpler side and I can get away with just a guitar and vocal take.
