picking problem

i am practicing back in black- the song and am working on the first fill which starts as G,E,D,B,A-bend,G. i have been working on it for a long time, and i either get it too slow or too fast. picking is the problem- i have noticed. i pick with the pick a little diagonal, and when i do the up stroke on the 1st string, i either mess up on playing the second string or i hit it by accident, and well, i do not play it right. can somebody help please?

Are you trying to practice it at speed?

If you don't have a metronome, get one.

Next, SLOW THE LICK DOWN until you can play it rock steady and right. Using your metronome, find the speed you are playing it at.

Then kick the metronome up by five or ten BPM and practice it there until you can nail it every time. Then kick it up again, etc. Keep going until you can reliably and perfectly play it faster than it really needs to be played. You will then have mastered it.

Doing it this way will keep you from making the fatal mistake of practicing it wrong. You will find yourself automatically making adjustments to correct your picking as you work your way up.

Be patient. Results come slow at first, then with increasing speed.

This is the way to learn how to play anything at a mastery level, by the way.

thanks , i will use your suggestion, but i need more prescision- as i said, sometimes i hit the next string by accident.

I personally don't see the use of a metronome. Then again, I noticed my rhythm sucks. :)

However! The 'play it very slowly first' advice is very true. Just build it up slowly. You don't have to play it full speed right away. Actually, that would probably mean you don't have the technique right.

Conclusion: Technique/how you play it Over Speed. :) Speed will follow.

actually, last night i asked for a dream to help me, and this morning i got it right!!! WOOT\\\Thx a lot guys!

One thing I was ought by my father, who's learned me alot of chords, rythms and picking-patterns, is to do it waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyy slow. Doing it fast is more likely to confuse you and pick the wrong string. Try slowing iot cown completely, even if it's rediculously slow, to a pace you can easily play. You are much less likely to fail since you give yourself more time to react and pick the proper string. If you are able to pick it in the proper order loop it and play it steadily faster. and faster. Eventually it will be easy for you. That's just my 2 cents :)
