Way back in the day (~2000ish, elementary/middle school years) I was big on a game called Graal. That link is an awful representation of what graal used to be back in my days, though, since it's devolved from it's Zelda-style, crisp 2D sprite-/gif-based adventure roots into some kind of 2.5D bullshit nightmare in the present... BUT, back in the day, it was the shit. A small but enthusiastic community that socialized and constantly expanded the game world with quality player-made content... for you younguns, sort of like Second Life in 2D with chibi sprites, and with playerkilling and swords. Combat and adventuring was balanced with socializing and more cultural activities... hell, I was in an acting guild at one point.

Anyways, generally speaking I try to get away with pretending I have as little talent as possible in all areas of life, but for Graal even I have to admit - I was one of the best levelmakers around. I was also one of the worst at getting my stuff published online (probably because I was too busy making more levels to bother worrying about my older ones getting publicity) but the people who did see my levels consistently told me I was one of the, if not the, best levelmaker(s) around. So I thought maybe you guys would like to see. I made a nexus level linking to all the stuff I've ever done so you can easily access it all if you want to see it, and... yeah. Of course if you've never played graal then it may not be up your alley at all and all my stuff might look like puerile bullshit to you - I might be the only person obsessed enough with the stuff to play through it all for hours at a time still.

Still, I've tacked a few thumbnails onto the end of this thread and if you think you'd like to trot around the levels I made for that engine, you can download my entire zipped Graal2001 folder right here. This is a 90 meg file, and I apologize for the size but there's no other way for me to ensure that you see what I see unless we're using the exact same files. That's unfortunate because there's a load of stuff (images, levels, logs) that has nothing to do with what I've produced and which doesn't need to be in that file, but it's nigh-impossible to separate the wheat from the chaff... over 20,000 individual files in that folder. If you download it, follow these steps to get up and running:

1)Go into the unzipped Graal2001 folder and find graal.exe
2)Enter a name and click on the 'training' button.
3)Hit F5 and click on 'Browse'
4)Select '_un_autre_introduction.graal' which should be very near the beginning of the list if you're sorting alphanumerically.
5)Load.

The level leads you along itself from that point. If things seem raw or unfinished in some places, it's either because they are or because the new client is partially incompatible with my older levels... like the pics1.png problem in my rootbound home. Just wander towards the mess until it disappears. Also, I hold no responsibility for juvenile antics, stupid jokes, or any other 12-year-old unprofessionalism in those levels... because damn it, I was 12 years old. Enjoy!

More screens to see if you want to DL this:

A farmhouse I cobbled together once upon a time.

On top of the world... and soon to head down (why is there gray around my head? I don't know.)

Inside my most ambitious housing project.

Nothing I made, but this is "Old City Center" - the semi-festering heart of classic Graal. Gives a good idea of the population density.

A level I made for Graal New World. I don't know where the actual level is; you can't play this.
