      A few old drawings I found today...

      Well, all the viewing of the Artist's Corner that I've done lately got me to wanting to draw some more. So tonight I got down my old sketchbooks to look through, for inspiration. And lo and behold, I found some old drawings that weren't too embarrassingly bad.

      So I figured I'd share them. I honestly don't know how old these are, but at least three years, I'd say. Maybe more. Some are slightly childish, some are better. I saved the best for (next to) last.

      It's a tree, in a pasture. Not too bad, but not my best.

      Another tree, in another pasture, how scenic...

      A Morning Glory, which I must have drawn from the ones in my backyard. They're really just weeds, but they're pretty ones.

      This one I like, though it's not quite proportionally correct. I remember when I drew this, think I was eleven or twelve. I had just gotten a book on drawing bugs. It's a yellow jacket.

      I seem to remember that this was mostly just an experiment with shading; maybe to get a feel for new pencils?

      Some sci-fi cyborg thing I drew at some point.

      Some damascus ceremonial dagger...

      And a piece I'm actually kinda proud of;

      A pen and ink zebra I did a long-ish time ago, I'd say four years maybe. I actually did that freehand, shading first, after doing a bit of looking in a drawing book on animals. I did not at all follow their guidelines, but rather just...drew. I like how it turned out, though I kinda think the neck needs more shading, to indicate the head turning a bit, so the angle would look right. But hey, that was years ago.

      Oh, and this one I did just the other day/week, and since I only remembered it after I shut down the computer the scanner is hooked up to, I just took a picture of it with my webcam and cropped it.

      Another pen and ink, of a random ex-military guy off the top of my head. This is the only way I can draw portraits, with the sunglasses and long hair, oddly.

      I love the morning glory and the zebra is pretty cool too. I like the yellow jacket as well. It reminds me of a drawing of bees I drew for a science report a few years ago.

      The seeds, inspiration lies in the seeeeds! =P

      More seriously, looking back upon your own work is a great way to start for inspiration, most especially when you can recognise an improvement from where your technical ability stands at the now moment.

      Also, I find viewing, observing and exploring other peoples art to be extremely beneficial to inspiration and motivation (not so much for technical inspiration but more so ideas etc.). Technical inspiration can seem more so a grind for a lot of people but briefly studying things such as human anatomy can have tremendous effects upon ones technical improvement.

      I find anatomical studies to be most beneficial as it too emphasises general discipline and control in ones drawing as well as the initial study of anatomy.

      In any case, keep drawing. One can only better his drawing through practice! You seem to have a nice eye for drawing from life which is a difficult thing to develop, you're definately quite capable. Grow! Grow!
