If you're looking for constructive criticism, I would say that the shading on the face is wrong. It's not a big deal, but if that's what your buds are saying, I would be inclined to agree.
Walk the talk.
Hawk the walk.
Maximum chaos.
Reminds me of Guitar Hero for some reason...
Well, the way that all of the face around the eye is lit up would imply that the lighting is coming from roughly perpendicular to that surface (the surface being the cheek and forehead area). If this were true, however, the light would also light up the eye socket. Your eye socket is darkened.
I would recommend getting rid of most of the shading on the bridge of the nose, and decreasing the shading underneath the hair at the top and right edge of the face - unless the hair is really fluffy there shouldn't be that much of it. If you then increased the shading at the chin towards the bottom, it would make a much more convincing impression that the light was coming from above (which I'm assuming was the intention, seeing the shadow under that bang on the right side).
Something along these lines:

But more carefully done, of course :P
Ah, yeah. You're right. That's helpful, but not what they were saying (which is good).
This is oddly like a thread I saw in this other forum. :hrm:
Maybe I should link this thread in that forum! Aha
There's a sumthin' sumthin' an it's gettin' bumpin' dat's my somethin' goin' bumpin' in my trousers.
That good, eh?
Sorry for my last post, I did not see the image the last time I looked at this thread and figured you'd "pulled a funny"...forgive me dearest Mark75.
(I'm sure you enjoyed the visual of my last post)
PS-
It does look quite good, that there...poster quality, in my eye though those more critical think otherwise...
though
I can't help ya, Gnome knows his stuff so follow his advice.
For what it's worth I actually like the heavier shading in the original. It is the dark shading in the ear I'm not sure about. I'm wondering what it would be like with the shading lightened, or less ear & more hair over it, or get rid of the little sucker...lol Just a thought ...
A very captivating image overall. I'm impressed ;)
walrus
It's god awful.
There should never be a shadow like that along the bottom of the face, it makes it appear as if there is no chin among other things. The other side of the face is in shadow, but it wouldn't be completely dark to the point of disappearing, unless it was obstructed by hair, which I can't tell because that area is just a big black mass. There's something alittle funky about the perspective. And the top of the head is too low and makes it look squashed around the top and back of the head.
I really like the style though, I think you just need to spend time learning facial structures and how light affects the face.
Furries are furry.
Yes what Nina and Gnome said. Other than it looks good. The style of the picture of itself is very good. Reminds of some of the artwork you earn in .hack//G.U. :D keep it up man.
What feel are you trying to convey Mark75?
Other than the Nina's point I think it conveys a strong appeal of punk rocker, I guess.
I do not like it for an avatar. There is too much content for such a little space.
By punk rocker I mean - in your face, Cid Viscous style.
It makes me want to rip out a loud distorted power chord!!
