Ambigram Contest!

This seems like it might be fun. The idea is simple: someone requests an ambigram of a word or name, and I (plus anyone else who wants to give it a shot) try to make it.

I called it a contest because if multiple people try to make the same requested word, the requester can call a winning attempt. If no one else but me tries, this will really just be a 'ask me to make an ambigram' thread. That would be fun too, I like challenges :D

My apologies in advance if they suck, I'll try my best.

Err. What's an ambigram? Is it a form of anagram?

An ambigram is a word which can be read from more than one direction. The type I would make is a word that, when turned upside down, says the same as it does right-side-up. Some more complex ones can say different words.

They're fun to try to make.

Thanks for the challenge, MoS! That's quite a hard one, actually. I played around with two different models - one where "Jo" has to look like an upside down "sh", and one where "J" has to look like "sH", while the "o" is just left alone, since it's already viewable from any angle. These are the best I could come up with after lots of penciled attempts, finalized in MSPaint :P

I think the first one is the most immediately legible. I hate having those "H" lines just hanging out on the "J" in the second one.

Neither is really great, but that makes it easier to compete - it would be cool if anyone else wants to try!

Wow, that's really cool, Gnome! I think I like the first one best as well, but the second is none too bad either. Awesome work.

Try making one that says 'Black' one way up and 'White' the other way up. My friend is into these, he once made a sign for his door that said 'Come In' one way up, and 'Go Away', the other way up :P He had problems with my name though, (Owen)

Best ambigram I've ever seen live (as such ) is by Goldney ask him to post his one of James up!

This one wasn't a request, but Lord Toaster's friend's idea sounded cool, so I gave it a go. It would be cool to see your friend's one and see if we used different methods or similar ones :)

Yes, pretty similar I think. I'll ask him to make a copy when I see him on monday. I seem to remember he kept the two words completely separate (ie. come -> away and in -> go). He does them by hand as well, so his style is a bit different. The letters are thicker.

But yeah, good work.

I made one a while ago, though Luffers is overselling it slightly.

Mine is nothing as good as these ones. I may give some of these a go (if they're easy).

That "James" one is great, goldney! I love it when ambigrams click like that, letter for letter.

Great work, y'all. That Jason/Violin one and the Go Away/ Com In ones are awesomely cool, Gnome. My modem died/got fried last night, so I'm having to use my mother's computer to post these. I made the ones that had been requested as of last night. They aren't that great, at all, but I'm improving I hope.
