It's a Long Story

"Well, I don't really remember where I left off . . ."

The old man sighed, leaning back in his ancient rocking chair. "I tell you what, mate. I'll just pick up around the time they went for Google."

And then he began to weave the tale. There was something special in the way that Grandpa Crow told stories. He made them seem to come alive. This one was no exception.

Amethyst Star got there first. The place was dark, and for a moment she wondered if it was the right place. The central location of Google itself; the perpetrators of this Reality since the sellout. Then she saw the huge letters on the side of the building, if you could call the monstrosity a building. It seemed somehow an inadequate term to describe the incredible mass of the thing. Narrowing her eyes in determination behind her jet-black ninja mask, Amethyst headed toward the fence.

Back in the plane, there was still a lot of catching up going on. A couple of memberships needed renewing, some myths needed disproving, and a flame needed fueling. Through it all, neither stopped believing. Journey had taught them that.

"Shit, it's dinnertime." The old man pushed himself slowly up out of the chair, his bones creaking as he straightened to start toward the door that led to the kitchen.

His avid audience of one started to protest, "But, Grandpa Crow, you've only just started telling the story!"

"Dinnertime only comes once a day, kid, and I ain't missing this one! You've got all the time in the world."

There was no argument to that. The old man went to enjoy his dinner.

It's basically an alternate universe/future sort of thing where DV is real--the whole internet is physically manifested, style of 'fing. It's . . . complex, mostly silly, utterly humorous, and, well, you really have to read it to get it. Defies description, all that. You're in it, a lot of DV members are in it. Kiza started it, then I joined in, then much later Morgan popped in for a bit. It's huge now.
