      Some homemade music :)

I thought I'd share some of the music I've written and sung in the past year or two under the pseudonym Demineerija. In a lot of ways the songs are pretty dreamy, often dealing with subjectivity and psychedelic matters. You can listen to them...

      ...at my MySpace page:
      http://www.myspace.com/demineerija
      ...or at Last.fm:
      http://www.last.fm/music/demineerija
Both sites should also enable you to download the songs you like.

I also thought I'd add some lyrics to the post, since my pronunciation/the sound quality in general probably isn't perfect.

      The Dream Within

      what a wonderful place
      what a wonderful dream
what a wonderful thing it is
      just to be with ease
      in this changing and making
      and breaking and taking
and clinging is just a disease

‘cause the dead will live on within
that’s where they’ve always been, anyway
and the living will fear and sin
they’ll always be doing it within
you can try to run and hide
from the darkest corners of your own mind
but you’ll always be doing it within, within
in the house of your bliss and your sin

so you see it’s a wonderful dream
in a sea that billows within
no two dreams are ever the same
but the billowing sea will remain
      with its ridges and tides
      greetings, goodbyes
      and everything happens inside

      Homemade and Braingrown

the trees around you grow inside your brain
and through your eyes you birth the rain
and you were born from what resides
      inside your mind
      it likes to hide
      itself from you in sentences
      that seem new to me

      I disagree, I know I’m free
and yet I flee from slavery
      atrocities and everything
that seems to me to be… mean

and feel the wave of time wipe away
these lies that always tend to rhyme
with all the things that help you hide
      inside your biodegradable hide
and when you look into the sky
no need to go, you’ve just arrived
I know you sometimes feel desire
for flyin’ saucers and fine attire

but you are just a little tired
you need to have your brain rewired
you’ve got it all and it’s right here
there is no need to go anywhere
      the aliens are over there
and some of them are drinking beer
and you know what strikes me as slightly weird
you are the reason why they’re there

      Lullaby

      I am a sailor
      floating downstream
      I am a smoker
      smokin’ my weed
      I am a gunsmith
casting the seeds of evil in me
      and I am the ocean
      of long forgotten dreams

      Ref:
      no need for goodbyes
my whole life’s been a lullaby
      hey-hey, goodnight-goodnight
      will you shut the light
      inside my mind

      I am a seeker
      searchin’ my dreams
      some need their beaker
      as full as can be
      but the old oak tree
      once whispered to me, silently
      the wine they are drinking
      leaves them empty and mean

Oh, and here's one in Estonian, titled "Jonnakas laul" or The Stubborn Song:

A very good friend of mine made the video. The song itself was inspired by a blind girl who painted small stones into ladybugs. The lyrics are about a man who stubbornly doesn't give up, although life hasn't had too many good things in store for him. Despite losing his wife and his job, he carries on living, selling toy ladybugs at the marketplace. Sounds kind of moronic when you try to translate it into English, or when don't know the background information.

Any comments or suggestions are obviously welcome, it's always interesting to hear what sort of feelings or thoughts this kind of music evokes in different people.

Thanks for your time and attention!

      Edit:

I made the collage in the beginning of the post as an illustration to the song Lullaby.

      Edit 2:

Just in case, here are the mp3 links for the 3 songs above:

I don't know what the music scene is like in Estonia, but it sounds like you could use with more than just the guitar/vocals. Your vocals are pretty good though.

      Thanks for the feedback!

Made another song meanwhile. Indeed, they do seem to be rather minimalistic, due to limited resources, and... well... let's be honest... laziness. This one is no exception in that respect, probably won't succeed in catering to the ear used to the rich, high quality sound bouquets mixed together in studios. It is sincere, though, and I did manage to strike upon some pretty nice harmonies in the latter part of the song.

Anyway, the new one is titled Life and Love in the Milky Way.
You can listen to it here:
      http://www.noisehead.com/mypage/demineerija
(You can listen to it for free, obviously... I just haven't gotten around to uploading it anywhere else yet...)

And a one, and a two, and a...

Life and Love in the Milky Way

      hey you, over there
      I like your hair
and the fact that you'll fade away
      now don't be scared
      it's just that here
in our home, the Milky Way
      we lend our bodies
      from the stars
and in that debt we'll fall apart
      and it's not bad
      and neither sad
      it's just a scientific fact

      ...it is indeed
      dee-de-dee-de-de-de-de...

      Hey you, over there
      I like your hair
      neatly spread across our bed
      I love the way
that summer day with its smells faded away
      but they remain
      ingrained in brains
just think of freshly cut hay
      after the rain
      I know there ain't a thing
to stop us from running away
      in the rain
      we're running away
      and we'll fade away

Sounding a little better, although short. If you're interested, I'd recommend looking into writing midis and converting it to mix in with your recorded pieces. Then you could add any other instruments.

Hi again! I added another song to my MySpace page. It's called Cecilia and I think it turned out pretty well

      http://www.myspace.com/demineerija
      - Thanks so much for your attention!

      Cecilia

I saw you in a picture, you were lovely, you smiled
but your pretty eyes had something to hide
I knew it at once, I couldn’t make it right, though
‘cause when I was born, you had already died

you could’ve married, could’ve had a child or two
grabbin’ gazes in your high heel shoes
but oh who knew what we know to be true
now… your last afternoon was over too soon

      Ref:
too late, I couldn’t see ya’
      Cecilia, Cecilia
too late, I couldn’t feel ya’
I guess I’ll always have my memorabilia

that’s the thing with pictures, you can never quite know
how frozen children smiling frozen smiles in a row
grow up to shoot each other just for a show
the ones who live shrug and say ‘That’s how it goes.’

a bird is an egg’s way of becoming another one
and when we finally have one thousand bombs
goin’ off all at once, blowin’ us apart
Man is Earth’s way of turning into a star

Really awesome, man. You must have overdubbed the vocals? Sounds great.

My mom played guitar... I play a little, my husband plays, my daughter plays and sings.... I've been around bands and musicians my entire life. I really like your voice and your style.

I've made some new music since the last post. Thought I'd share Click on the title of the song for the mp3 file. And if you happen to like my stuff, feel free to share it with all your friends

      Give Up

      and we plead
      and we pray
      every day
      every day

      to gain
      the right to name
      the world
      give it our face

      that’s the game
      that we play
      every day
      every day

      why fight
      for one side
      when you’re all
      there is…

      …no point
      to this
      is all there is…
      (x2)

      in this maze
      of light and shade
      bad and good
      flow through you

      The Road

I am goin' down the same old road
I'm flowin' downstream in my boat

      distant stars
      will sing afar:
      no-one needs to save you
      hear the crickets
      chirp away
the time no-one ever gave you

I am goin' down the same old road
I'm flowin' downstream in my boat

      see a thousand
      glinting eyes
      they understand
      the message sent
      by the starry sky is
      that's where you began

I am goin' down the same old road
I'm flowin' downstream in my boat

      Time to Go

      my friends
the time has come to pack my bags
to forget what was good and what was bad
in the time we shared and had

      the time has come
      to dissolve into the ground
      which spins around
the sun, the time has come

      my friends
please spare your cries and signs
I assure you I’m quite fine
and you’ll see me in some stranger’s eyes

      my friends
      please talk to me then
when you see me in those eyes
be sure to say hi, at least in your mind

      my friends
the time has come to pack my bags
to forget what was good and what was bad
in the time we shared and had

      Little Bird

Pretty much improvised the lyrics, so there's a lot of repetition, but they go like this, with a few alternations:

      my little bird
      fly away
to some world where your name
      and songs are still unheard
      my little bird
      come back some day, please
      my little bird
      come back to me

      Lovely Smoke

we walked through the night hand in hand
and spoke of the dreams we’d once had
the stars were bright and I was scared
of the things I wouldn’t dare to do
the Little Bear was up there too
we tried to find it, you and me
we saw the stars but not the way
as those who gave them names did

      ref:
      and in hindsight
      it’s cherry smoke
      rising from my pipe

and you weaved my heart out of willow
and I flew far with wings of heroes
      who die near the sun

and right now you are by my side
      I slowly light my pipe
      and watch the sun rise

Oh, and then a few other songs, experiments rahter. I tried to cover Coldplay, much in the spirit of my other songs:

And then I tried to... do what? I don't know. I improvised and then turned it into something that sounds pretty nice:

Oh, and how about one song in Estonian as well, it's about religious fundamentalism The title is a sort of a play on words. In Estonian, Russian Orthodox is "Vene õigeusk", with the word-for-word translation being Russian Right Belief. So "ainuõigeusklik", the title of the song, would be a suitable word for describing someone whose religion is solely right, or "ainuõige". Roughly translated into English, the lyrics are something like:

      Ainuõigeusklik

whether you're a toddler, an old man or an anile
our job is to preach: there's a hole in your soul
and our best buddy, he's the creator of the whole world
he taught us in which to see the good, and in which - the bad

the hole in your soul will be cemented with sunday school
for a mere tenth you'll have the creator of the whole as a friend
I'm not a business man, just the bringer of peace
let the flags flap and load your guns - it's what the creator of the world wants!

to be pretty, good and virtuous, that's our care!
we'll straighten out everything we see skewed
and if somebody thinks our doctrine is a bit raw
then in the most loving and brotherly way
      we'll saw him in half

And yet another song. This time I'm not going to post the lyrics, as the emphasis is rather on the mood than anything else.

You can listen to it here:

I also made this illustrative collage of images:

By the way, all the sounds are natural, they're just either stretched in time or reversed. Oh, I did apply a certain effect for the vocal track, though. Still, the music itself is natural. The background rhythm itself is made with an acoustic guitar. A certain exotic vibe is courtesy of a paperclip I attached to one of the thinner strings of the guitar.

Any feedback is very welcome. If you happen to like my stuff, don't hesitate to inform your friends.

Two new songs, one of them in Estonian. Titles are links to the mp3 files.
NB! The song Alkeemik is really trippy when using headphones.

      A Planet of Snow

let me take you to a place
      inside my heart
it isn't near, it isn't too far

      log houses, warmly glowin' windows
      chimneys blowin' up smoke
      even though
      it's a planet of snow

ain't no debts, there ain't no rent
      no money spent
      even though
      it's a planet of snow

      Ref:
      you see
life is a game of chess
played by two of the best
      tricksters who ever have been
one looks while the other is seen

let me take you to a place
      inside my heart
it isn't near, it isn't too far

winds wear off our troubled faces
      till we're no longer sad
it isn't good, it isn't too bad

      wise waters wash
      pride out of our hearts
      and we're the sum
      of all the fun
      we had...

      Alkeemik (The Alchemist)

      ajalikus kehas sünnib ajalikke mõtteid
      vaja leida vajalikke salavõtteid
      kuidas olla nii, et kesta
      kuidas söest küll teemant vesta
      vast vestaks juttu julgelt alkeemik
      kel talismaniks Tõestus taskus
mõelda kullaks terve ilm, see vist
      on tõeline raskus

kas polnud ma just teleka ees
või leidis totter trall aset mu sees
      algusest peale, peale alguse
pole ma suurt midagi peale valguse
kas suhkruga TV, mida ma joon,
      võib valada sõnaks televisioon
      uurib umbisikuline
      tsivilisatsioon
