      I take pictures of stuff

A few days ago I bought a Canon EOS 1000D DSLR camera, and I received it today. Been playing around with it most of the day, and I really like it!

Right now I'm reading up on some tutorials and working with a few RAW pictures I took. If anybody got some good tips, I'd like to hear them.

I'll also dump some of the good pictures I take in this thread. Hopefully I'll get a few shot of tonight's firework.

      The objective is 35-55mm.

      edit:
      Behold! Watertap!

Fiddled a little around with it in Photoshop to make the colours better.

By the way, expect big pictures in this thread. I'm using a 24" display, so I like to keep the size big.

Found a nice piece of software that can be used to record high quality videos with the camera. Not really anything crazy, and YouTube has decreased the quality (and brightness), but it shows the power.

I ordered a tripod, which I will probably get monday or tuesday. If my friend is up for it, we might go on photo-spree in town. Otherwise I'll just go by myself.

Try making a stop motion animation with your DSLR.

The epic of VGA connector and USB plug.

I might take a jab at stop motion action later

It's known as the EOS Rebel XS in the US, and I guess it roughly costs $700 over there. It's a starter DSLR and one of the cheapest you can get. Nikon has an equivalent, though I can't remember the name of it. It can do about the same as the canon.

I'm thinking of getting a macro lense, though something wide angle is also apealing. Hmmm

The Nikon equivalent is the D90, I think. I have a D40, myself. Also, Nikon has better glass.

Very nice so far, Marvo. Nice composition in the last two, especially the VGA/USB love affair. The lines of the keyboard draw the eye nicely. The other feels a bit empty in the left, but maybe that's just me. Looking forward to seeing more of what you do with her!

Edit: Actually, how was your lighting set up for that VGA.USB pic?

Thanks, glad that you caught the love idea

The lighting was just a lamb in my room actually. I put the camera on the table, so that I could use a low ISO and higher shutter speed.

I'm still working on formatting pictures, and maybe you're right about the bread. I think it becomes a bit more nuanced when the picture is like this though. Guess it depends on the motive.

Slayer, the price is more like $620 actually. Maybe it's cheaper in the US, sometimes electronics are.

Nice shots, btw. Lightening is terrific on these last two, but watertap I don't like at all. Too close-up to get anything of it, and cut in the wrong place, in my opinion.

I really like the subtlety in that one, yeah. The pink mouth of the USB cable, the blue, more masculine housing of the VGA cable, resting possessively at the USB's shoulder . . . all in a dark, gritty, almost film noir-style setting.

You can make a makeshift tripod from a small eyebolt and a piece of string about 2-3 meters long. Just thread the eyebolt into your camera's tripod mount (choose the right size, obviously, not sure if there is a difference in European cameras, but it should be 1/4", I think), tie on end of the string to it, then run the string down and under one foot, using tension on the other end with your hand to hold the camera steady. Gives it three points of contact: both hands and the string. Works marvels for when you don't have a tripod or can't fold one out because of space constraints.

Instead of an eyebolt, you can use the tripod mount foot (the little piece that screws onto the bottom of your camera, then slips into the slot on the tripod head) to attach a string. I do this most of the time, since I always leave it on my camera.

      Some danish food

MoS, that sounds a bit confusing, but I already ordered a tripod. I'll be going to Copenhagen in a month's time, I'll probably take a lot of great pictures over there, provided the weather is good. February is a weird month.

I received my tripod today and also went to buy a bag and a jacket for the cold weather. Tomorrow I'm getting a bit earlier off from school, hopefully I can go take some pictures finally

I tried working with some silhouettes from a plant in my kitchen. It's a bit hard to tell what it is though, which maybe is a nice thing. Let your fantasy fly

I did a bazillion macro pictures of a candle light aswell. Only 1 of them turned out good

edit: by the way, if any of you want these pictures in giant resolution, just say it.

That is awesome! I wish I had a good camera to practice on..... But that first one, omg what plant is it? It looks like a dead rolled-over cockroach to me, but that's probably because of reading to much Kafka, or simply my terrible bugophobia...haha.

My niece is getting baptized this sunday. I'm hoping that I can grab some really good pictures. Portraits, specifically, perhaps some good church shots too.

Excellent stuff, I want a good camera badly.

Also... how did you manage to eat the corn? Did you bite down on the center where the stem is? I can imagine it would be good without the centrepiece breaking my teeth

Those are very small corn. A baby could bite through them. I think they are called babycorn actually
