      Photography Thread

Hi, figured maybe a photography thread for everybody would be a good idea. Post your best pictures in here, along with a nice little description, like what settings you used and lighting.

Taken on a bright day in the afternoon, very fast shutter speed, lowest ISO.

You can get more specific numbers by downloading the picture and looking at the EXIF data
Xox, Gnossienne and Suena like this.

This is one of the few pictures I've taken that I actually like, and even so I still dislike the editing. Taken in a random street in Gatlinburg, TN, very quaint little town. Very flip floppy that day, really sunny at times, raining at others.

In same town, I think it would've been good had I taken it from a decent angle. But I was taking it from a chair lift, unfortunately. 'Twas a beautiful, cold looking day but I couldn't quite capture the mountains (misty).

      Post more stuff later.

This is just from my mom's garden:

Macro shot of a poinsettia leaf my mom had outside:

And for some reason I just really like the composition of this one. The focal point is clear and powerful considering it's all the same stuff around it:

And this steak just looked so delicious and I'm hungry right now so imma post it:

Busselton Jetty. The longest jetty in the Southern Hemisphere. 2 kilometers long. There used to be a little train that carried people to the end, but that's no longer in service. A very nice walk.

      Dog Rock, Albany.

      Where does this lead to?

Cool thread!!! Flash, those pics are awesome!!! Ok, I'll play...

Greentree on Flickr (makes it legal )

This is from a set I call Nightscapes, all shot with long exposure times in the dark of night. Sometimes I could hardly see what I was shooting!! The above pic was an exception though, as the green branches were lit by the driveway light.

      Vast on Flickr

This is my house and a wide, wild valley choked with tangled woods behind it, with the lights of Dutch Hollow visible through it all in the distance.

      Chasm

Another shot of the wooded valley behind my house. I stitched these shots together with some panoramic software called HuginOSX for the Mac. Mmmmm... this one just looks weird this small though.

      Outpost

This is a closer shot of my neighbor's house, visible at the far left of the shot just above it.

The last picture is really good, I like it. Your pictures do seem a bit blurry though.

Flashdance, I think it'd be really cool to walk along that railroad thing.

I happened to go on a walk earlier today and took a lot of pictures

Thanks Marvo. Blurry? Well ok, I see why you say that I do tend to like pics with a very selective focus, where one area is in focus and the rest isn't.

Gnossienne, very nice!!! New York eh? Obviously not the city though. Nice place to walk.

I'm not sure, maybe I just really like super sharp pictures

      Recent winter trip:

Need to edit some stuff out in this photo.

Pretty sure I seriously fucked some settings up in these next two, but I like them regardless.

There seems to be a theme of not taking photos of people?

Anyone taken any significantly good photos about people?

The best photography I've seen has always focused on people, it would be nice to get some in here, from you photographerbros.

Gnossienne: Those are beautiful! I have a place that reminds me of that behind my house, I should go take some pictures, come to think of it

DarkMatters: I actually really like the "blurry" pictures-- they remind me of Boards of Canada Album art, and they give a very warm nostalgic feel when looking at them. Don't be afraid to jet away from "sharp" images as long as you're able to make it effective, which I actually think you pulled off.

Here's a buffalo (can't believe I got this close, it was scary as shit o_O):

Baby gecko on my mom's arm:

I just like the focus in this one (dragon fly wing):

This one's cool because my eye looks like fractal art or something:

      Some tall grass macro action:

And this one I just love the colour so much in, so very rich and "fruity" :

In case I didn't mention, I NEVER edit my photos (or at least I haven't before). All of them are as they are just when I took them.

Also, what cameras do you guys have? Mine's a shitty Canon A720IS-- a typical family camera, pretty much. It's really bad with focus, so getting good shots is hard.

Looks like the ISO setting was too high on those two last pictures Xox. I really like your pictures btw., though I think you overdo that blue effect a bit too much.

Perhaps you should try working around with colour balancing, either on your camera or in post processing. Buildings in bright sunlight are not blue

Carousoul, I agree. My current lens is not very good for portraits though. I'll have to look into it.

Spenner, I work with a Canon EOS 1000D, otherwise known as a Rebel XS. It's an entry level DSLR, but so far it's performing very well. I'm planning on getting a lens for macro and portrait shots

Nice, hopefully by the time I start my graphic design course in college I'll be getting a decent camera of my own-- one that looks like that one, not sure which yet though

If you have never worked with a DSLR, this one is great, since it's relatively cheap and still does well for its price. However, if you want to go pro or anything, I suppose you might consider getting something better to start out with, like a 450D.

Lol yeah, I know, it was on a tungsten (or something like that) setting for the longest time without me realizing it. :[ I'll probably mess around in photoshop and try to fix it.

I'm by no means a photographer, but the world's a beautiful place... pictures do last longer after all.

These were all taken with my cell phone... no editing was done on them... just the built in effects on my phone (BW, Sepia etc). The funky looking ones are done with a partial IR filter... which I adore. Anyways, remember this is a cellphone... so some pics are dark underexposed and grainy... but it's the best I got!

Haha... a good camera would make quite a difference

Anyways... I'm lucky enough to live in the b-e-a-utiful North West! British Columbia, born 'n raised!

Many of these shots are taken within a few hours, if not a few minutes from my house. These are taken from all over the north.... from Abby/Chilliwack all the way to Dawson, Burns lake, and Prince George.

Being privilaged enough to live in the land of moose and trees I travel just as much as I don't... so basically quite a bit. Unfortunately I don't own a great cam (obviously)... but I get along anyways!

I'm gonna upload a few more in a bit aswell... from some more locations...
