      Finished recording a new song.

"Laura" is the name of it. No, it's not really live, I use an audience track and loop it over and over. I don't use music loops of any kind. Every note played or sang, I physically played or sang myself.

If I wrote this for you, would it mean a lot to you? Didn't seem to phase her at all. She used to be a good friend of mine. Now she seems kinda heartless. Anyway, let me know what you think of the song. Given the lack of response from the intended recipient, I sure could use some appreciation.

Very nice, I like it a lot. That's too bad about your friend. She didn't know what hit her, maybe she's just not much of a music person or something?

Actually I didn't know you had recordings until seeing this. Just listened to half of em. Awesome stuff, you're a production wizard. Everything's so well mixed its almost hard to believe you do it all on your own. I'd love to hear any of the jazzier influenced stuff you have, I'm actually minoring in jazz piano right now.

Gotta admit I'm super jealous of your rig as well haha. All I've got right now is an 88 weighted key Roland and matching amp. Which is cool and all, but they're getting lonely!

Hey thanks, man, I really appreciate your kind words. I'm a Jazz Piano major at Cal State in Sacramento, so it's nice to see another jazzer here. Let me tell ya man, you can do a lot with a great keyboard. Do you have midi? I'd get a software sequencer like Pro Tools or Logic Studio. I can help ya record some stuff.

Yeah man, man, I'm flattered, I appreciate the kind words. I work really hard on this stuff, and still got a long way to go

It's pretty cool. I don't know much about jazz, and it is a huge genre that I want to explore more but it is so freaking scary.

I agree the production is great, and the music itself is pretty good. I am shocked that whoever you played this for didn't melt on the spot. Do you play bars or anything? I'd like to keep myself posted to this.

By far, Mothra (in all of it's forms) is the worst kaiju of all time.

Yeah, Maybe i'll write some jazz tunes some time and put em up there.

Thanks for the encouragement. I play a few local scenes solo, and with a few different bands/jazz quartets that I gig with from time to time. Trying to get somewhere with all of this.

Haha I know, don't let that stop you though. Check out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jazz, specifically the history through the decades. I recommend starting at the 70s (a lot of more modern jazz is rubbish) and working back. Fusion and Modal jazz are good starting points imo, very accessible.

      Fusion:
Return to Forever: Light as a Feather (jazzier) or Hymn of the Seventh Galaxy (rawkier)
Mahavishnu Orchestra: The Inner Mounting Flame or Birds of Fire

      Modal jazz:
Miles Davis - Kind of Blue (absolutely essential)
      Herbie Hancock - Maiden Voyage
John Coltrane - My Favorite Things

Sweet, that sounds good. I've been playing jazz for a year and took classical lessons as a kid. I'm also trying to get somewhere with music but I'm a long ways away from getting there. Gets better and better every day though .

Yep, all you can do is practice, and you'll get better. Just sit down at the piano and play something repetetive that sounds good. If you listen to a lot of music, trust me, you'll end up writing something if that's what you intend to do.
