      The Messiah (crap sketch)

crap sketch, crap scan. I just darkened it a little.

sfjio0q84j39ithoeh33fdsjfl;e;!!!!! I couldn't get his body to look right. I even used an anatomy book for reference. (I think I should get a few different ones, like with different poses or something.) does anyone here know anything about anatomy? I didn't try that hard (obviously) just whipped this up in like 30 minutes. CRTQ PLS

and before anyone says anything, I know his face looks long. I draw faces long on purpose, I like them that way. :>

but the rest is terrible. please kill this.

[on a side note: it really pisses me off when people draw stigmata on the palms. hello! if you nail someone to a cross through their palms, the palms cannot support the body weight and the nail would rip through the hands and the person would fall off. k? :) ]

oh yeah, this is my character Isaac emulating Christ. he kindof develops a weird obsession with the christian religion. or something. sorry if this offends any christians! (not)

and uh...this is irrelevant but I think my mom went through my sketch book. LOL! rule number 1: NEVER go through my sketch book, unless you want to see a lot of horrible gay porn and sacrilegious scorn. ;)

[I think I will use this thread from now on for sketches]

One question, do you actually have Nazerene tattooed on your chest?

Its obviously a self portrait. I didn't really think you had the tattoo though, but who knows?

      :0 YOU CAN SEE ME??@?!?!?

      lol.

I've had this character for years, he's one of those "this is everything I'd be if I only could" characters. I already had the philtrum piercing, I copied his hairstyle...I dunno. as lame as it sounds, he feels like more than a character to me...almost like a spirit that haunts me, that I've struggled to understand for a long time. it probably sounds stupid, and that's why I never talk about it.

or maybe I'm just vain. but then, isn't everyone, really? :\

and no I don't have the tattoo. not sure if I'd want it. he does have a tattoo I'd like to get someday, though, a very big depiction of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden (with the tree and serpent and everything) on his back. and, two big, inverted crosses on each arm.

Sounds like a desired self image. A lot of people have a persona that is who they think they are and another persona that is who they would like to be. Anyway, if this is what you are trying to look like, I'd say you've pretty much succeeded. (minus the stigmata, of course )

      eh. :\

Isaac picking up some (probably underage) prostitute. he's slipping, spending more and more time alone in bars with scotch and cigarettes. I don't know, I sketched most of it when drunk and just touched a couple things up. the boy is supposed to be fondling his tie but I just gave up.

sorry I promise my next post will be better than the last two.
I should either practice more or give up drawing altogether.

Is that supposed to be an Electric Six quote?

I think, nerve, you would benefit greatly from doing some figure drawing and portrait studies. Virtually all of the people I've seen you draw are extremely reminiscent of your own likeness, down to the piercings and hair styles. These two are basically twin representations of yourself. I say this because from your reaction to the last time I said it, it sounds like you do not exactly do it intentionally.

      Electric Six?

I got the words from a song called Never Say Never by Romeo Void ('82).
then I found a rather raunchy re-make (ooh-lala) by 'Amanda Blank' called Might Like You Better. it's alright, little too mainstream for me...I like the re-mixes more that the original.

      anyway, you're right :(

I've noticed this. I just draw what I like, and I like longer-looking faces, so they all end up looking pretty much the same. I think it;s just inexperience, I know I could still draw the faces in the same style and have them look like...they aren't all the same person.

about them looking like me...I'm definitely NOT trying to draw them like me, I don't really like how I look :(
the only one that's really close, would be Isaac (and I took his name, not the other way around...), and the only similar things would be the philtrum piercing and hair. already had the piercing like I said, they appeal to me most so I gave him one (he doesn't have any others, and my ears aren't pierced) and -I- copied -his- hairstyle.

I guess all I'm saying is, I won't argue with you that all the faces I draw look way too similar, because I completely agree, but I don't understand how they are 'extremely reminiscent' of my likeness. I don't know.

wait, I just remembered - about a year ago, I was browsing deviantArt and I found a picture that practically made my jaw drop. I just stared at it for like 30 minutes...because it resembles Isaac almost -exactly-. it's uncanny. same facial structure, same countenance, same style...only differences, Isaac's eyes are green not blue, and he's got the piercing, and his hair is a little more blonde - this guy's is closer to silver. here:

      Spoiler for the wonderful find:

(if anyone only knew what all this means to me...I doubt anyone ever will.)

I think, though, I don't need too much practice on heads/faces at the moment, I think they look generally alright (besides the above problem), I think what I need to work on more right now is bodies, getting the proportions right. I can barely draw them at all like in that pic, ^ or if I do they look like shit. I don;t have good anatomy books, I just have one and it's okay but it doesn't have a lot of different poses...(that's what I need). I just printed a bunch of reference pics, so I'll probably work with that until I can get good books, do some practice sketches of bodies...I'd like to get that part level with faces, and then work more on those.

      you know what I mean?

[my middle name should be prolix. sorry.]

I'll recommend a really good book; Anatomy For the Artist by Jeno Barcsay. I have it and its great. Detailed sketches of the entire skeletal and muscular system as well as many poses and positions that are all anatomically accurate. I'd say this book has improved my ability to draw bodies more than anything else.

pen sketch I did very quickly, and was surprisingly pleased with. went over with some highlighter

my character Cain...yes I know he looks like all the others.

except his nose!!!! you can't say that looks the same. he has one of those..."crook" noses. and he's supposed to have a long face, even within my style

idk I was just happy with this enough to post it, it's actually much better than most things I do in pen in less than half a minute

      so
