Sitting on the shore I wait for the rain to stop. The thundering sound of infinite numbers of droplets battering the lake. I see, a ways out, something struggling in the water.
A fox.
I grab a life jacket and push my canoe into the water... the water seems ecstatic with energy. I beat at the water with my paddle, trying my best to get to the fox.
The fox is drawn to the canoe, pawing at the rim trying to pull itself from the chaotic pane of constantly shattering glass. Less interested in me, and more interested in getting dry, it darts under me and curls up with a quaking body.
The canoe scrapes onto the jagged shore. I wrap the fox in my coat and bring it inside to near the fire.
"You've helped me succeed further into one of the basic veins of existance... life." speaks the fox
"How many facets of existance are there fox?"
"For a fox, not many, but for you there are many. Simply by using your energies, and exerting your power to save me you've shown one of your purposes... to care."
"Fox, how can
you speak?"
"Through you."
Sitting on the shore I wait for the rain to stop. The thundering sound of infinite numbers of droplets battering the lake. I see, a ways out, something struggling in the water.
Only a fox.
