Pirating used to be a noble profession, sponsored by the British government, if you can believe it. Raiding and destroying enemy vessels was of a tactical advantage. |

That's called privateering and is distinct from piracy. Technically privateering is still legal under current U.S. law, but one needs a charter from the president in order to act as a privateer under that country's flag. Pirating was also never considered a noble profession. Also, the leader of the largest pirate organization in the world was a Chinese prostitute by the name of Ms. Cheng, who was portrayed in Pirates of the Caribbean as one of the nine pirate lords, lololololol. |
