      Tell me about furries :D

What do you all think about furries? How many of y'all are out there? what is your species? Is it more a sexual, lifestyle, or hobby type thing for you all?

I am a white tiger crossed with a fox, and it is a lifestyle, hobby, and sexual thing for me. So what do you all think of it?

      Spoiler for a furry.:

Like slayer said, a furry is a person with many animal traits, especially fur and paws.

As far as I was told, most furries are against actual bestiality.

Anyway, this is not a furry:
      Spoiler for nope:

Furries tend to poses more animal-like traits rather than human traits, such as full body fur, animal shaped head, and other smaller things. I guess that's a simple way of putting it.

A furry is someone who likes anthropomorphic animals, or animals with human qualities (intellect, speech, upright posture, etc.

      This song tells it well:
      Maeni likes this.

Are furries specifically attracted to cartoon animal-females? Or would they be attracted to a real female with fur and an animalish features if such a thing existed?

I would love to see girls walk around with cat tails and cat ears, but unfortunately in this day and age, most people would be seen as a "furry" or "teen werewolf" and we can't be having that.

I am gay, so I prefer men, and if real anthropomorphic animals existed, I would love it (sad as it is, I have lost sleep wondering what it would be like as one). However, I also like fursuiters (people who wear animal costumes)

I am more animalistic than most furries are. I am about 10% of the way from being a furry. The only reason I don't consider myself to be one is that I don't do anything about it. I don't play the game . I don't draw them. I don't fantasize about them.
But if I could get away with living in a savage place with no clothes, no technology, and no words, I would be perfectly okay with that. I might miss my alcohol, though. Hell, I did live in the woods for quite a long time with no human interaction or invention.

      I am quite savage.
---o--- my DCs say I'm dreamy.

"Furry fandom is a fandom for fictional anthropomorphic animal characters with human personalities and characteristics. Examples of anthropomorphic attributes include exhibiting human intelligence and facial expressions, the ability to speak, walk on two legs, and wear clothes. Furry fandom is also used to refer to the community of people who gather on the Internet and at conventions."

It's like any other kind of fandom, it's just the most sexual participants in the fandom stick out so the majority of the internet assumes all furries must be sex-crazed zoophiliacs. It has nothing to do with bestiality, that's something entirely different, like pedophilia. Since bestiality ties in with animals, obviously, then it would make sense for there to be zoophiliacs among the furry fandom, just as there are pedophiles among the anime fandom.

Furries are also not just men who like Crystal from Star Fox or similar characters. Anyone can be a furry. In fact, I know more non-sexual female furries than anything else. You can be any animal too but it's pretty apparent that wolves/foxes/tigers/dragons are the most common. There should be more ridiculous jellyfish fursonas.

Anyways, I don't give a hoot if someone is mildly or heavily involved in the fandom. As long as no is getting hurt, everything is consensual, all that good stuff, and you're not trying to make me a furry and not trying to make me look at furry porn, then I'm fine and dandy.

I've never been a part of it myself, but art-wise, I've gotten pretty close. I mean, I make a lot of characters/species that are essentially anthropomorphic animals but I can only do so if they're in a medieval-fantasy setting, like gnolls and minotaurs and all that good stuff you might see in LotR or Narnia.

      That about sums it up.

No "YIFF IN HELL FURFAGS" yet?

I'm a furry (no points for guessing what I mainline as). The sexual aspect for me is likely stronger than most would have it, as it was a formative influence on me at those vulnerable ages. It's hardly something I'm proud of, but what can we do with our wirings?

I believe furriness generally gets a bad rep because it's most visible on the internet, where people act out their characters; and people who are roleplaying on the internet are going to be not infrequently nerdish or crazy. The more sensible types just draw out their drawings and make their stories, no need for showing it off to everybody.

Yep. That's a totally different can of worms.

Slayer is correct. The term for catgirls is Nekomimi (literally in Japanese, cat ears). I believe a good rule to go by is if you couldn't look like that without some heavy surgery, it's a furry.

There's no such thing as a consensus on this unless you want to exclude some of the crowd. Furry is a broad term.

Personally I would be almost as squicked as most people would by the latter option. Human-anthromorph relations have far too much taste of zoophilia for my liking, no matter how close to human they are. It's anthromorph-anthromorph only.

It's okay. Yesterday I went to make pancakes but we only had plain flour so I went over to the shop to buy self-raising flour and I got some and came back and made pancake mix and put it in the fridge and as I was putting the flour away I realised I'd actually bought plain flour again. We are inattentive creatures.

In answer to the OP's question which I have just read again (more inattentiveness) I'd say it's currently three parts hobby, five parts sexual, no lifestyle.

People who enjoy the concept of animals with anthropomorphic features, be that enjoyment sexual or not, it doesn't matter. That's all that it means to be a furry. Everything else, is just extra weight.
