Tell Me About Studying for the SAT/ACTs

I'm a junior in high school so I will soon be taking the SAT as well as the ACTs. I'm most likely taking them in april or may, so I still have a few months, but it's never too early to start studying. I rarely study for anything since I'm fairly good at remembering stuff. I just have to do it enough until it "clicks" so to speak, and that's usually after doing something 2-3 times which we will often do in class anyway.

I would like to know if anybody has any tips/tricks that could help me on the test as well as studying for them. I scored fairly well on the PSAT (pre-SAT), I believe I was in the 80-85th percentile (scoring better than 80-85% of the country) so I'm not too worried, but in order to get into some of the colleges I'm looking at they want a 1280-1340 on the SAT while I got a 1260 on the PSAT. Any help is highly appreciated

I know a lot of schools offer classes on ACT and SAT prep. If not available there, you may be able to find ones throughout your community.
I'm pretty sure that you have to pay for classes though.

Hope this helped a little, and good luck!

Go to a used book store (like Half Price Books) and buy a SAT or ACT study guide. The ACT is generally thought to be easier, so you might want to exert more effort into studying for that; not that you should put all your eggs in one basket, though!

I took a sort of demo version of a prep class. The book I got from that was fairly helpful. Largely, though, there isn't much you can do to study per se. Maybe review some vocabulary, or get some prefab literature examples ready for the common essay topics (they'll probably explain this if you take a course, mine was the SAT boot camp from Catalyst prep). I didn't do a whole lot to study, but between the two times I took it my best scores were 68 in math and 670 in reading (I think).

Yes there is: practice tests! There are usually a few in the books that I mentioned in my earlier post. I think no explanation is needed in terms of their practicality.

True. Practice isn't study but they do help.

Thanks guys. I checked today and our school is having a few classes in a month or so for them. Most teachers say SATs are more IQ than learned, while ACTs are the opposite. I'll probably do a few practice ones online, too, since they're found pretty easily.
