      Wine

      I've had these:
      • Chateau Ste Michelle ( Riesling ) Columbia Valley 2010
      • [yellow tail] Shiraz
      • [yellow tail] Chardonnay
      • Redwood Chardonnay 2009
      • Redwood Cabernet Sauvignon 2010

Of those, the Riesling tasted very nice. Cheap, too.
I don't have the first clue about 'good wine', so someone teach me.

The best way to tell the difference between a good wine and a not-so-good wine is drinking it at room temperature. The natural flavors of the wine are masked when it is chilled. There is a reason cheap wines and beers are served ice cold. My personal favorite type of wine is a New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc. If you are looking for a wine that will please anyone, especially non-wine drinkers, try an Italian Moscato (avoid the American ones though). If drinking reds, make sure you allow it to breathe first. Having an aerator helps a lot with this.

My best advice is check around your area for local vineyards and take a tour. They are often packed with great info. If you can't find one try your local (non-chain) wine shops. They are often staffed with passionate and knowledgeable connoisseurs.

A tour is a great idea. I literally just returned from Harley's with a couple more bottles of wine: Kendall Jackson and Firestone, both Riesling, and I saw some wine from local vineyards.

I had no idea we made wine in my area of Texas, and the thought of taking a tour never even entered my mind. Yea! I'm in a happy mood, now. Thanks LucidiTEA .

Bottled wine tends to be pretty fancy

Everything works out in the end, sometimes even badly.

I have nothing helpful to add to this post...just came in here to say the last time I drank wine, I had the entire bottle, went wandering down a main thoroughfare and puked all over the cop that stopped me from wandering into traffic. =/
