Thread: Tell me about making blogs to get money

To make any sort of monies blogging you need to find an unrepresented niche and cater to it. Keep updates regular, informative, entertaining, and most importantly: worthwhile.

Quite honestly, the dreaming niche is already filled quite well by a variety of sites (including this one), so keep your expectations reasonable. What's more, monetizing a blog with adsense is a slow process. It's extremely likely that you'll turn 18 and have a job well before you're eligible to receive your first check.

I agree, I have seen alot of people try this but fail because they are just to unknown.

I kept a casual blog and I realised recently it was attracting around 100 pageviews everyday, with a grand total of 70k+ pageviews now. I think that's pretty awesome for a nobody like me who blogs with no actual topic. So I decided to try Google AdSense and within 1/2 weeks I earned $0.17?

Lol wow. I guess you need to be extremely popular in order to make some decent money off it. Assuming you will keep making 17 cents you might get almost a dollar in approx 21 days. Thanks for telling me this, now I understand that unless I am some major celebrity I will make next to nothing. I remember having better luck on those pay to click sites. I actually got some cool stuff.

There are actually popular bloggers (who are not celebrities) earning from the advertisements placed on their blogs. But I think you need to get thousands of views a day and probably millions of views in total to actually earn something.

I would think an actual job gives more money to people like us.

The average CTR (click-through-ratio) = 0.25% (sic) which means one of 400 visitors will klick on an ad in your blog. One Klick gives something like 5 to 10 ct. Means you need 4000 - 8000 visitors to get $1.

According to my calculation carrot has earned something like 8 - 15$ yet.

Depends the topic or niche you are bloggin about and your competitors. If you have always been blogging about people who grow daisies in Switzerland, I guess you will never get 8000 visitiors on your blog.
If you are blogging about Justin Biebers sex life, I guess you will have that much visitiors soon.

My more popular posts are translations of Chinese songs to English. Although there are random posts about cartoons and games getting into the weekly top posts occasionally.

I got your point, just thought I should share what I actually blogged about.

Yesterday I saw a blog who was quite famous. They published screenshots of facebook fails and had 100 000 visitors each month.

Means: 100000 Visitors x 0,0025 CTR*0,05$ = 12,5$ each month.

Just buried my idea of becoming rich via google adsense.

ALL of those visitors and you get about 12.50 bucks? Well if you didn't focus on blogging for money and blogged for fun then the extra money no matter how miniscule would just be a little bonus but its not meant to be your sole source of income unless you get a gross amount of views. If you got 100_000_000 views per month you can definitely live off of that. You will get about 12,500 per month which would be 150,000 a year. Definitely more than your average salary thats for sure but good luck getting THAT popular.

I don't even know how some bloggers got famous. Guess it's just luck.

Or a lot of promoting yourself on the internet, or getting friends to promote your blog with you, you could put your blogs link on your money and just spend it and hope someone sees and goes to the link. There are many ways to go about this.

And starting blogging at the right moment and a little talent.

I know 3 famous bloggers: Tim Ferriss, Steve Pavlina and Perez Hilton. I guess they startet blogging kinda 10 years ago when there were very few bloggers. Now we have tons of bloggers, it's very difficult to become famous in a niche and the niches became smaller.

btw: I had some miscalculation:

100 000 views don't make 12,5$, but maybe something like 50$, depends on the google ads, some bring more, some less money.
