tell my why (read this)
Tell my why people who play sports and "entertain" earn so much damn more then the people who protect us, find cures for our diseases, keep our country in check, ect? (this is ment for people from U.S, but feel free to respond if your from other places)

Probably because people tend to live vicariously through sport figures and entertainers and sadly don't even THINK about war, etc. (unless they have family serving) nor illness (unless they have family sick).
Truthfully, people want to be entertained (we're a "pleasure driven" society) and we will pay big money for the experience.

Even when people can't afford their bills, they still want to be entertained. I feel that "entertainers" in many capacities are way over-paid. But, hey, if I chose that business I may be making that kind of dough too. It's all about what's in demand.
That said, it still peeves me that I have to work my butt off for a pittance and sports stars are paid millions for playing some school yard game of tag. It just doesn't seem right :whyme:

They are paid so ridiculously because rich owners of these teams care more about winning and getting more rich off of winning than they do about spending their money to do something useful in any way. Selfish fucks.
Teachers I feel should be paid the most. Or at least up there in the super-high range. Even though with our system, that's not really possible, but they should be. No one could do SHIT without having learned it somehwere. Teachers are the beginning of every persons career path. Fuck sports. Fuck celebrities. Go teachers!

It's business. They are paid a lot because they earn a lot of money for the company that hires them, be it a sports team, a TV network, etc.
If they payed them less, they would go to the competitors, the company will lose money, and may become bankrupt or irrelevant.
This is the capitalist system. There are alternative systems, but as long as the society is based on capital, this is the way it got to work.

I agree dodobird
It is the public that pays often hundreds of dollars per ticket. The viewers who pay hundreds to watch pay per view.
People pay a cable companies that has a monopoly on the market.
Unless that changes, which it will not, the system will be supply and demand.
Civilians could have so much more if you could somehow ban togther. To get more than three people to agree on any one thing.
aaarrrg it's frustrating!
