tell me about your most prized possessions

and, please, don't say "my children" or anything like that. it's a given, and no one cares. I'm talking about stuff.

and no, replying to this doesn't mean you're materialistic. I'm not judging anyone.

so, what are some of the last things you'd want to part with? limit...three or four. I guess for me it would be...my copy of Disco Bloodbath by James St. James (it's out of print, and cost me 130usd). I'm in the middle of reading it again (3rd time. I love it).

some blocks from my childhood, they have a different part of a picture on each side and you put them together different ways like a puzzle and make different pictures.

and I guess...my favourite teacup...and a scarf a friend gave me years ago. I don't know, I'd have to give this some more thought. anyway, what about you? what are some of the last things you'd part with?

My computer: (Not so much the computer, itself, but all of the things I have saved on my hard drive. I could do with a computer upgrade, though.)

My electric and acoustic guitars, and all accessories (Though, in a "losing everything" scenario, I would be happy with just my acoustic).

      My art portfolio and sketchpads.

My ring that I always wear (and I literally mean always). And my watch. And a working laptop of some sort.

And ipod. Though I need an upgrade.

Actually, I'd like to add my gold ring, watch and necklace. I can't believe I even left them out when I was scanning my room for things I'd hate to be without. They were all my dad's, before he died, and given to me by my mom, after his death. I almost lost the ring at work, once. I worked in a huge, multi-level office building, and the ring was a little too big for my fingers, but I still wore it. One day, it had slipped off of my finger, and it was a little while before I'd noticed it missing. I went for about three days without it, but some person from another company found it and told the groundskeeper. The grounds keeper then got the word out, and I was able to identify it.

I'd really hate to lose any of this stuff.

I'm going to put exactly what I put in another thread a while back

I have a necklace of sorts that I wear, its a memento a friend long gone. He had a gold coin that he constantly flipped around and played with using sleight of hand, and he left it for me to hold onto before he died.

Really I see all that I have around me with equanimity. Not attached to any of it. However if I had to have one particular distinct "thing" be the last to go I would say the car.
Reason being is that the car is a fortress of solitude. When I drive I am alone and undisturbed with mySelf. Relaxed and at peace. Looking back it doesnt matter what the particular car is, this state while driving is still the same.

      Hmmm.

      My wedding band.

After that, it would be my old Goya classical guitar. I have a lot of guitars, many which are FAR more valuable, but this one is special for many reasons. This particular guitar was purchased for me when I was in first grade. My guitar teacher found it for me. He had a Swiss-made Goya classical as well, but his was mahogany. The one he found for me is rosewood; the tone and feel of the instrument is just awesome. He could have kept it for himself and sold my parents his, but he chose to let me get the better instrument. And then my parents... this was at a time in their lives when they had no business paying for a high-end instrument for a child, but they did it anyway.

There's not too much beyond that jumps out at me. I guess after that it would be the collection of music I've written and recorded over the years.

Pretty much all of my books, iPod, computer.

Then I have some weird little things that I wouldn't want to lose. They have no real purpose other than to clutter up my room. There's a varnished human collar bone (I have no memory of getting this, but it's mine and I'm keeping it), tiny Jeremy Fisher statue thing (as in Beatrix Potter...YEAH) and then a weird Japanese money-box thing.

      I hate losing things.

My guitars, recorder, computer and CDs. Basically, everything I need to make and distribute music, as well as listen to it. Oh yeah, I must have books on winter days when it is simply too cold to go out.

I can do without everything else. I am soon getting rid of my TV. I have one chair, no bed, a few sets of clothing and a few dishes, etc. I live simply as I can so that I need not trade more of my life away than I need to.

There are three things in my life that are my most prized possessions.

I have a little four inch high koala bear stuffed toy. I've had him since my Gran found him at a jumble sale when I was a baby and he still goes everywhere significant with me. He's been flying, racing, and on exercise with the military. He was on the cabinet in hospital when I nearly moved on from this life. In event of a fire at my home, he'll be the only material thing I'll be grabbing on the way out.

I have a very cheap, Encore Stratocaster copy. It was my first electric guitar bought for me by my parents as a christmas present. It's very battered, as a kid I was fairly clumsy, and it took the brunt of all my frustrated attempts to be the next rock god. It is the only guitar I have I will not get rid of.

Outside my brother's garage sits a tired old Jaguar saloon. It has panels on it that are several different colours to the metallic Cobalt blue it used to be, and where original paint still shows it is faded and no longer shines.. There is an abundance of rust, and an oil stain on the floor under it, but if you put a battery on it and some fuel in the tanks, it still runs fine. If you open the door it smells of leather, wood and just a hint of damp... but the interior's still good. Five years ago it was used for holidays, weddings and evryday transport. This car was the first car I ever owned, the first one I paid for with my own hard work, the first I drove with no-one else in the car instructing me. It's just waiting for summer and a bit of TLC....

If I were left with nothing else that is mine but these three items I would be happy.

      Regards

      Ric

Two stuffed animals of a penguin and a yellow dog I've had since I was less than 7. They mean a lot to me.

I also treasure my PS3 because I had to work for it and earn it.

My mind is probably my most prized possession though. I can't imagine, nor would want to imagine, being less intelligent than I currently am. It makes life so much easier and interesting.
