      Getting a tattoo

So who has gotten a tatoo/tatoos and why? ~ regretted getting one, why? ~ who has a great one they love, what does it mean to you, why did you get it, where did you get one, when where why how much, maintaining, how big, small colors etc. etc. etc..

      Should I get one?

I first though it was a phase. After several years and now in my thirties I think I truly want one! But I am a bit conservative and have over analyzed the entire idea.

      Thanks,
      Howie

I only have one, it's a mercury wing on my leg. I'd only regret it if I for some reason stopped liking running... never never

      kind of like this:

I don't have one, but I've thought about it every now and then. What sort of tattoo do you want? As long as it's something you know you'll still want 10, 20 years from now, then I say go for it. Oh and also if it's not in a place that might interfere with you getting a job and stuff.

Honestly, I don't see a point in them. They're just scars really, be there for your whole life unless you have it removed but then that scars too.

I'm not having a go at people with tattoos, this is my opinion.

I don't have any tatoos because fovever is a long time. I mean sure I like stars now but will I like wrinkly stars when i'm 65. I think if there were like a semipermernt tatoo that lasted for like 5-10 years I might think about it but I have chosen to stay tattoo free!

I know that once you get one you're stuck with it. I think that is the main reason that I had not gotten one before. But now I think I'm past a stage.
I want it for symbolic reasons, not ALL looks, of coarse some. Not to impress anyone but for myself.

I have a few ideas. My friend had me draw him up a plan for his gargoyle tattoo. He really loves it. I think it looks pretty damn cool too.
I would be designing my own. Something well.. --it is hard to explain. I will get a scan of the image and post it.

My wife is cool with one in moderation.
I'm still a bit undecided. I need that perfect design.
(something like a compass. - As I have all directions covered. That with more symbolism added.

I always thought it would be funny to strategically design a tattoo that someone in their youth would want and with age, it would morph into something totally different.

Tattoos are way too permanent for my taste - I'd chose a piercing over a tattoo any day. But I think piercings are not as socially accepted on men as woman, at least that's the way I see it. I don't like piercings on guys. And personally, I don't like tattoos on guys either.

But I think something small and tasteful that has some meaning to it, and something you've thought about for at least a year, and if it's put in a place that isn't constantly viewable would be ok. A lot of people get tattoos as an "idea of the day" and end up regretting it later, but I don't think you'd be naive enough to make a rash (and very permanent) decision like that. So I say if you've thought long and hard about it and your wife approves, maybe just do it. Just a warning though, most people say that getting tattoos is addicting - once they get one, they always want more!

I will never get a tattoo. It doesn't really have any good things. Think about when you get old and you still have that Playboy tattoo. I think you are going to regret getting that. If you get it removed there is going to be an ugly scar. Just take away that problem and don't get one.

I'm quite confident that Howie would get a really awesome, really meaningful tattoo. And I LOVE the idea of designing it in a way so that it morphs into something else once the skin sags/wrinkles. You'd have to predict really well how that part of the body would change though.

Omg I heard that about dying hair too, is that true? I almost dyed my hair once, and even then I felt like I was breaking through a certain barrier, past which was the land of no return.

You only have to keep doing it because you get visible roots if you don't Man I'd love it not to have to worry about coloring my hair... but my natural color is a dull shit brown and I hate it

Ohh yeah I guess that's the general population then... I've had a lot of friends who changed their hair color like every week, but then again they tended to dye it blue/pink/green, that kind of thing..

Who gets a tattoo that says "Know your rights"?

I suppose those big blocks of text are paragraphs of the Charter of Human Rights or something?

I'm considering getting a giant penis down the length of my spine. Yeah, that'll look great in twenty years.

That'd be nice. Great one to show the grand-kids. It would probablly resemble your own old penis by that time.

On-topic though. I suggest getting a tattoo if it has some meaning. The only reason you would want to put a permanent piece of art on your own body is if it really meant something to you.
You do this every fucking time.

It looked kind of like that elvish script from LOTR, the whole "One Ring" verse.

I think getting a tattoo is a good idea once you've had time to really think about it. I won't get one until I'm 25 and even then, I probably won't do it. I'll do fine with the piercings, but not so much with tattoos. Who knows though, I might change my mind, and then, it will be something that is very easy to hide.

I really would recommend getting a tattoo with no colour, just black. Only because it doesn't look so bad when it fades, and they look hotter anyways. I think's we need to see some sketches here though.

Oh, and I love that tattoo that Jolie has on her left shoulder blade.

I have always flirted with the idea of getting tattooed. I perfer large pieces over single tattoos, sleeves, back pieces, ect.. its just like a painting. I have always been afraid of looking trashy, but now that I am older I see that they can be beautiful and if well placed and well done, they can look very awesome. imy best friend has an incredible full sleeve, it has amazing color and art, everyone compliments him on it and I really like the way it looks on him, its so neat. I am an artist myself and I have many tattoo ideas that go through my head, just hard to put it all together!
