Dreamviews has always been.
There is no when.
It was created for lucid dreaming by a member named Icedawg who sold it to Seeker when he went off to medical school. asher took over in mid 2007 after a conglomerate takeover by Top Cola Inc.
hehe, that grew into this. who would have known?
i wouldnt mind knowing who the first moderator was, besides icedawg of course.
i would spout some random shit about how dreamviews quality is rapidly declining, and post a link to clouds dramaviews thread, but i wont.
So... Top Cola actually took over this site without the consent of Seeker?
Originally icedawg started the site for a school project/experiment, as a pretty simple and small repository of dreaming info, as I understand it. It grew, and a year or so later (06-18-2003 was the first post) the forum was added, and from there it grew exponentially. The first moderator, Serinanth, was promoted on 10-26-03. We got our 1,000th member on 06-18-2004, exactly a year after the forum was started. I think the Dream Guide program was started in late '04.
Seeker has never held ownership of the site, to my knowledge—icedawg sold the site to Top Cola Inc. when he felt he no longer had the time nor inclination to run the place, and needed the money for med school, back in late March-early April of last year. The forum has changed software a couple times, that I know of.
And now the site is run by crappy 'ol Asher who never actually visits the site.
It's grown so much and split off into two other lucid dreaming sites.
True, but technically, we are a branch off of LD4All, icedawg is a member there and they've been around since 1996 I think. And to be technical, pj created MM before he found DV :P
Does anybody else see the resemblance of the legacy of the LD websites to that of the legacy of the chans?
And thus, I shall go forth to create my own Lucid Dreaming website. Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow...but it shall be done... All I've got to do is pirate an Invision forum, steal a bunch of source code from some website nobody cares about, and plagiarize all the lucid dreaming information and I've got myself a site.
In the beginning...there was Dream Views. :pope:
There was never a sale of DV to any other than to Top cola.
As him and I were the two Administers during that period It was the intention for seeker and myself to obtain Dreamviews from icedawg.
icedawg, realizing that the site had a potential for a greater investment had decided to look into potential buyers. The other buyers raised the pot steeper than Seeker and I were willing to invest.
I must note that at one point in time I was under the impression that Seeker and I were as close to one day away from obtaining the site.
It was a great let down.
:|
oh :(
This site has quite a bit of money-making potential....

So Asher's first name is Matt...and he lives in Oregon...
Icedawg, Asher and anyone else in that position would most likely have done the same thing.
● Do I feel the community would be stronger. ABSOLUTLY. We lost some very vital members to the DV community.
It has not been the same since and never will be!
● The advent of Asher and his company running DV has led to some aspects that seeker and I could most likely not have been able to achieve.
Pick the lesser of two evils
I remember coming here in like early 2004 possibly late 2003 (I can remember a cloud banner on the main page, that said dreamviews, and a diffrent logo). I used to stop and read acouple dream journals that I was interested in, one of which I made my first post in.
Alot feels as if it has changed to me, the only real diffrence is a more mainstream crowd I think, and much more members around at one time, less familier faces around.
It seems as though everyone was more mature around those times, despite having younger members (I and alot of members were like 14). Or maybe I just got to apreciate members more because I got to know a lot of them much better then I do now.
Also the layout of the forum was much better then it is now, and it could still improve.
^ Heck yeah there were some 12 year olds here too! :? I don't know if they were mature or not, but it was fun.
As far as the maturity between then and now...Well I guess that it just comes with having a much larger population. I know that for me, the forum certainly felt very mature at the time, but I still see the same thing now, just that there are more trolls/immature posters. I guess the core desire to access resources and improve skills is still there, there is just a lot more fluff now.
The site was really great in the early years.
Like Howie said

That chapter is closed, now this one is open
only Fluff now?
Will it cause everything I type to devolve n2 tEh LOLspeek likes tEh 4chan kids? Do NOT want!
As Dreamviews came to market, it seems it just attracted bad members, not necessarily immature people. It's bound to happen. I also believe that people just tend to get bored of these sites not necessarily because they've actually changed (aside from new members coming and old members going). It's just a matter of viewing this site when you first join as "fun and new".
Mes, forgive me if it sounds rude, but how can you possibly say what it was like back then? And how on Earth did you get 5,800 posts in a year and a half of being on this site?
As for the maturity thing... well, you know how I feel about that.
We need an offical DV Timeline...
From the making of DV, to the Viva la, to now.
Yeah I had a different account, and I didn't know you weren't allowed to create a second one when I created this one. Sooo, here we are. :P
I have a lot of posts because I used to pretty much live here.
What was your other accounts name?
