      Tell me about this Cat

Its part Siamese and part Torte? I guess according to my sister (it was her cat originally).

Anyway, its a female, and after she had her kittens, after about 6 months, she completely turned on them. Now if she even sees them, she starts hissing at them constantly and growling.

Her kittens could be sleeping on the ground under a table, and she'll walk by and hiss at them for no reason.

I'm just wondering about some general information regarding these kinds of cats, and if its normal for them to act that way towards their litter.

She doesn't act like that around our 2 dogs, only her kittens. She's fine around people and other animals, so I'm kind of confused.

I don't know for sure, but I think it might have to do with their smell?

When I was little, I think my sister told me that the momma cat didn't like some of the baby cats because they smelled differently or something...

Then again, my sister isn't a genious.

Well, she was fine with them until they got to be about 6 or 7 months old. She nursed them and was protective of them. But for some reason, after that time, she decided she didn't like them much.

I'm just not sure if this is a situation unique to this cat, if its all cats, or just the breed... But she doesn't even let her kittens eat until she's done and out of the room lol.

I've had cats before, and nothing like this happened... so maybe just your cat... Cant be sure though. Could be breed, or my cat could be special!

Send a PM to Burns. She's a vet and a crazy cat lady. And she's cute.

I haven't seen her around here much lately...

But yeah, she's an expert with the cats.

I thought about asking Burns earlier, but dunno if she's even active on here anymore. Maybe I'll try the mist, I think she's still active there.

Burns is still active. I saw her about a week before Thanksgiving, and I think a few times after that. I just think that she doesn't come here like me: Every day.

Hey guys! Thanks for thinking me And thanks for pointing me in the right direction, ninja *pinches cute ninja cheeks*

Very cute kitty, Kreature! Her breed is what is called a DSH (domestic shorthair) and her coloring is dilute torti. I don't see anything that would suggest Siamese mix - is there a reason your sister thought she was?

As to the behavior regarding her kittens - its not something that is connected to breed or whatever. Personalities differ in cats, just like in dogs, or people for that matter. Some are better mothers than others. In any case, she should be spayed straight away, if she isn't already - and any kittens she has produced should be spayed or neutered as well, and for no reason other than not contributing any more to the pet overpopulation problem.

On a side note for an interesting bit of trivia in case you didn't know - tortis and calicos are always female. And its been my experience that tortis are either very loveable and amenable, or have very sassy attitudes! They are lovely cats.

Hope that helps answer your question. Feel free to PM me if you have any other kitty questions I might not check into DV everyday, or post very often, but I am still around

So I gave her some Catnip, and she did like a complete 180 for around 5 or 6 mins. She was actually playful and having fun, something we could never get her to do before. We got a nice sized tub for her and our kittens, and they love the stuff.

I guess we'll just keep her nice by keeping her doped up on Catnip for a while. Its got a nice mellowing effect for her lol.
