no
Zui Quan. Wushu form.
Its where you get you're heart pumping really fast and hope that you're opponent is more drunk than you, and then you charge, punch, and retreat and by the time his drunken ass gets to you he's not only tired but throwing lowssy punches, so run a couple laps with him chasing you, and do the charge, punch, retreat thing again...just don't let him grab a hold of you...
lesson learned hard...
Essentially what ClouD said. There are a number of informational sites out there, try searching via Google.
I'm more partial to Drunken Monkey style, myself.
Where's the emoticon that conveys me slapping my forehead?
It's just a style of when you are acting out as if your drunk when your fighting. The reason this style is popular is because when you act like an drunken guy fighting your opponent doesn't know when your going to throw a punch and which way your going cause you look drunk and out of balance but in reality you have full control and full of balance... Thats what I think it is or I heard it some where.
If you watch Forbidden Kingdom, you'll get a pretty good idea of what the style looks like in action.
Omnius, it's
I seen it on mortal combat lmfao.
Thanks for the info :D
Seems awsome, to bad theres like no martial art place were I live!
It is. But I highly doubt it will work. Never fought against a drunken discipline, but never lost to a kung fu trainer either. Might work against normal people who has no experience how to fight :P
Martial arts are changed more in past 40 years than in past 400 years imho :P Crosstraining and internet etc allows information to spread so fast.
you can always PM me if you want to discuss about martial arts. I go way back with that thing :)
Good luck finding a school that teaches it. It's a real form, but it's not necessarily one that you will find (taught well, anyway) at any street corner dojo.
Here is Fight Science's take on it:

Besides, Fight Science, where that clip was taken, is hardly science. While entertaining it gives false or inaccurate information and such to masses. Lastly, no style can be solely better. It's like saying Africans run faster than Englishmen. All is about the human that trains. :)
But still.. I have never figured what the hell is meaning in Taido.........
I rather like the graceful fighting techniques from the aGaisha in The House Of A Thousand Daggers the best.
Just watch the scene where she hits the drums.
ookaey.. just woke up but regardless...
They all have different weight classes and the scientist did nothing to take that account. For example, in the punch session, a TKD practicioner punched harder than karateka even tho taekwondo has almost no punching tehcniques. And way he punched is more like boxing. Simply, he has trained other things among taekwondo. Do you think 50 kg kung fu man can punch harder than about 100 kg boxer? It's not anymore the style, it's pure physics. This is what I think was the worst mistake. Also, they were testing a small amount of people. A really small. I doubt everyone would approve that person to "represent" their style. Even though Rickson Gracie was there ( who has my respect) I don't know much about others. For example I doubt the ninjutsu guy had Soke Hatsumi's approval, or even have any connections to him. I might be wrong of course.
Also, it is strange that all the styles, except for boxer man (and capoera man who had about 20 sec screentime), are Asian styles. While it is true there are lots of different arts there, far Asia is not the whole world.
I also find it quite strange than in weapons section, there were shown real kenjutu masters doing battokiri, yet katana test was run by TKD guy. Now, I have trained kenjutsu for 10 years until I kind of dropped it from practice and that guy doesn't know kenjutsu. So I personally find it highly questionable is the test accurate. It's like taking normal Joe Doe to show us if grenade launcher is good weapon.
There were some reasons that popped into my mind at this early. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the show and I don't think it's *that* bad. Maybe good for those who know nothing about martial arts. Don't know tho does it only make these martial myths more shadowy or clear them as it was ment to.
This was in reference to the Fight Science. What I ment is that boxer vs wrestler question is funny. Make the question to Boxer NAME vs wrestler NAME and we have good question. But of course it could be for OP too.. but seriously.. drunken boxing as a "modern" fighting style.. I seen "drunken boxing" every damn weekend when I am bouncer. Granted, drunks are hard to read but only inexperienced fighter lowers his guard and awareness in that point.
While I don't by no means want to bash kung fu, it takes hell lot of time to learn properly. And no matter how flashy techniques or forms you do, when I have given kung fu guy gloves they all fight the same. Nobody tries anything too risky because they know they will get hit.
there's no technique that is flawless in my experience.
Of course not. We are humans and therefore can never be perfect. But those who aim to the top harvest all the techniques that have greatest chance of working in real, fast and adrenaline filled situation. There is no reason to train techiques which hold no realistic value, at least not for self defence or real combat. Martial art world is filled with great myths and illusions. Pity for those who train for 10 years in a way that gets them nowhere. When they get in touch with reality of combat, all that illusion dissolves.
Somebody please explain me, what is Taido? During all these years I have yet to find out, what is that.
Coming from a Martial Arts Background..ill say a bit of what i know...Drunken fist or drunken boxing as it is better knowen is an old martial art that was used to fool enemys..drunken boxers used to act drunk when in hostile situations so that the enemy would carelessly underestimate them then when attacked the enemey was defeated useing the drunken boxing techniques....as far as alcohol goes..drunken boxers would often consume a little alcohol as it would cause them to feel less pain..though they had to be careful not to drink to much and many un experienced drunken boxers did just that...a good movie for you to watch is the drunken master 1 and 2 by jackie chan and also he displays a bit in kingdom of heaven...these days however i don't know who teaches it..it seems like a bit of a lost art..but best of luck anyway..
my main martial art study is Go-ju-Ryu Karate
i also do free running.
i hope this may have given you a better understanding of its origins, cheers
Thanks guy! Ill check the movie out! Thanks for all the useful information!
