Tell Me About Opening a Summer Camp

So as you all of you, or many at least, know that I'm way fat. However slowly but surely I'm losing weight(I'm down 27 pounds since Jan. 1).

Today I went to two separate schools to see my sisters participate in musical concerts. One plays cello, and the other violin and they're both getting pretty damn good. But I digress.

I noticed a huge(pardon the pun) amount of really fat kids in both the schools. I knew that childhood obesity was a problem the country was facing, but I'd never seen such a concentration of them in one(two) areas before.

So I got to thinking, once I get my weight to a normal level I'd like to open an affordable "get active camp"... a fat camp without the needing to be fat to join and without the negative stigma, I guess.

There's nothing like that near us, I've looked with my mom. The closest type of thing is like 100 miles away and it's extremely expensive. Like 4 grand per month.

It's all very hypothetical right now, but I guess it wouldn't be the stereotypical "Work-out 10 hours a day, eat only salad and get yelled at by former fat people with childhood issues to work out camp"
I'd want it to be a place that encourages behavior modification, enjoying getting active and providing counseling when necessary(I need it, and I know I'm not the only one who does) and making healthier food and lifestyle choices.
Both for their physical health but mental health and also having the chance to instill the knowledge and desire to be eco-friendly or "green"(fucking hate that word) and also to learn to enjoy nature.

There'd be camps for differing age ranges, young children, preteen to "tweens"(fucking hate that word too) and young adults(14-18).

I hated and hate being fat, and I don't want other kids to have to go through it... it really, really sucks.
I'd want it to be really cheap, like a few hundred every session, with the opportunities for a lot of scholarships so no one would have to go without.

I was wondering what it would cost to start something like this? Is it even a good idea? How would I go about starting one or getting sponsors/grants?

And I know, I need my own shit in control before I try and help other people... like the "Take the plank from your own eye before you help get the speck from your friends eye" thing, but this is a future look thing.

      BSA?

And thanks, but I'm not actually doing anything right now.

This is purely hypothetical and definitely won't start until I at least get my Bachelors degree. So at the soonest, 4 years from now. 1 year to finish Community College with an AA, 2 years to transfer to and get my BA from a University and one year set aside when that's done just to fucking party. Or I might go for a Masters, but still... it's a long ways off.

I see, well I wish I could help you more.
      BSA Boy Scouts of America.
Almost every council will have some Summer camp to be bale to go to.
So theres tuns and tuns of summer camps. I am sure you will have to get some kinda team together, like a legal team ect.

There are a lot of angles on this, and it's good that you're asking these questions early, because it will take some time to aquire the skillset and put together the team to really do this right.

First order of business: call that camp 100 miles away, see if you can arrange to talk to the owner or someone who spends time actually running the place. Ask them how they got started, if they have any tips for you. If you feel it necessary, explain that you're not looking to compete with them, and come off as genuinely interested in what THEY do. Be friendly, and they will probably be very helpful.

Then there are a few things that I know you'll need. Legally, you're going to need to know how many counselors are required for how many kids. For instance, you may need 1 counselor for every 10 kids, or the ratio may be higher or lower. You'll need to all be certified in first aid and CPR (probably only one or two are actually legally required, but it's something that as many people as possible should know, in my opinion) for obvious reasons. You also need to look into insurance rates; what will it cost to insure a camp of the size you want? How big DO you want it to be?

Then there is the matter of location: do you know of an area that is suitable, a piece of land you can buy and build up for this? Figure costs of land, building materials, recreational equipment, etc. to see how feasible this is going to be. Or there may the possibility of purchasing a similar facility and modifying it to fit your needs.

Then come the activities. You need to know what you're doing, so you're going to want to learn as much as you can about the sort of things you want to do at your camp. Do you want to have canoeing? Rock climbing? Hiking? Group games? Learn about these subjects; get out and put in some hours in a canoe, on rock faces, on the trail, etc. and get experience. Know what you're doing. I would put considerable focus on team-building and building confidence and self-esteem, so you need games and activities that focus on these areas. You also need to know how to work with people, and exhibit confidence, calm assertiveness, professionalism, and fun. You need to be not have any issues with telling people what to do, clearly and easily.

Do you have friends in mind to help out with this, or will you need to hire a team? These are questions you will need to have the answers to.

There is a lot of stuff besides this, but these are a few points to consider. Hope this helps.

Hey, as far as the weight loss thing goes, I was working out actively for about 2 weeks, and I dropped from like, 256 pounds down to 250. I was kind of annoyed that I only dropped six pounds.

I got busy with work, and a "I'll skip today, just this once" turned into a "I haven't worked out in 2 months."

So I decided to weigh myself just to see how much further back I've put myself.

      The scale says 243.

Ironically, I lost more weight NOT working out then I did working out.
You do this every fucking time.
      No sweat.
      No tears.
      No guilt.
You do this every fucking time.
